Review of the iPod Classic 160GB

Although Apple has entered the new wave of MP3 players with the iPod Touch and the iPhone, there is still a lot to be said of the 160GB iPod classic. With such a huge storage capacity, owners could store their whole music and video library, along with pictures and podcasts. With the reasonable price of $249 and 40 hours of Audio playing, the 160GB iPod classic is a great investment for serious music lovers who don't want to fill their hard drives.

Technology fans who are interested in the latest trends may overlook the iPod classic, considering it outdated. Compared to the much hipper iPod Touch, the classic may look overly simplistic. However, the Touch can't compare to the huge storage size that the classic provides. The classic is simple to operate and works on either Mac or Windows-based computers; all users will have to do is download iTunes 7.0 and connect the iPod to the computer using the provided USB cable.

This version of the iPod features the older scrolling system, in which all actions are controlled through the wheel in the center. The menu button leads to the different features in the iPod, which are movies, music, TV shows, podcasts, audiobooks, games, photos, and extras. The scrolling feature makes the iPod very easy to navigate, though it may not be as sophisticated at the touch screen featured on newer Apple products.

Within the music feature, users can choose to play songs organized by composer, artist, song, album, or genre. Users can also use iTunes to create their own themed playlists or use the Shuffle mode to play tracks in a random order.

For movies and TV shows, viewers can use iTunes to purchase their favorite shows or movies. The iPod classic features a 2.5 inch screen, which is a decent size for an mp3 player. I have used my iPod numerous times at the gym or on flights to watch movies, and it's always been a great way to kill time. Plus, iTunes offers a great variety of movies and TV, including some free choices that are updated every Thursday.

The iPod classic, though perhaps not as trendy as newer iPod products, is still a great product. The storage space and price tag make this iPod a solid choice for first-time users or current iPod fans. Although many may be drawn to the iPod Touch or a different brand of mp3 player, the iPod classic is a fantastic media player that should not be overlooked.
