Review of the IRobot 12501 Remote Controlled Gutter Cleaning Robot

John Ehle
Whenever you live in an area saturated by tree growth, the fall time is a busy season for the typical homeowner. One of the hardest aspects of cleaning up fallen leaves has to be servicing the gutters on my home and garage. Certain areas of my guttering are located in a less than safe area. Either my ladder cannot be setup properly or there may be electrical wiring nearby.

In an attempt to find a better way of cleaning my gutters, I discovered the iRobot 12501 Remote Controlled Gutter Cleaning Robot. This little device is a far cry from your typical garden hose attachment seen at local home improvement stores across the country. What this innovative product does is clean your gutters efficiently by remote control. You no longer have to risk injury from over hanging power lines or rickety ladders.

The iRobot 12501 Remote Controlled Gutter Cleaning Robot works with all typical style guttering installed on most American homes. The special designed auger used by the device has been thoroughly tested to ensure effectiveness when doing its job. It is interesting to watch the gutter cleaning machine in action as it moves slowly going forward, wiping out the major debris then the machine moves in reverse to provide a good finish cleaning.

The range is a little disappointing in my opinion. The iRobot 12501 Remote Controlled Gutter Cleaning Robot
can travel around 150 feet before the unit needs recharged. Considering I have had to recharge the product three times in order to get the job done, cleaning your gutters the old fashion way will still yield the fastest results when it comes to typical applications.

The manufacturer claims that you can almost completely submerge the unit in water without hurting it. I did not encounter this problem but it is very important that any stagnant water be cleared from your guttering system. Bugs as well as other undesirable elements could have the chance to multiply and invade your home if your gutters are obstructed by dirt, leaves and water.

The other gripe of mine concerning this device is not having the ability to control where the leaves and other debris will land when the machine expels it out. My thoughts as well as the thought of many other consumers would like to see some of the kinks in operation resolved to make the product better.

For typical sized and smaller homes, I would recommend other alternatives including the pressure washing devices you can easily attach to your existing garden hose. However, for those with high roofs on their homes or other out buildings, the iRobot 12501 Remote Controlled Gutter Cleaning Robot could be a wise and safe investment.
