Nothing beats eating outdoors when the weather is good. My friend and I recently had lunch at J. Marks in the Pompano Citi Centre. This is a high-end eatery but it has reasonable prices, especially considering the portions.

The ambience is sophisticated, low light, charming, warm and inviting. It's dark, but in a good way.

You also have the choice of outdoor eating, which is what we wanted. You get to sit at lovely outdoor tables with umbrellas for shade. There is gorgeous lush foliage all around and a nice wrought iron fence. So, despite the fact that this is in the middle of a shopping center you are on the outskirts of the shopping center and because of the beautiful plantings you don't even notice the stores or parking lot nearby. You feel completely private.

You walk into this brick faced restaurant. and see low lit invitng seating areas. The parking is ample since it's in a shopping center and it is wheelchair accessible. There is a full bar, a lounge and a sunroom for conferences or meetings as well as the outside patio. Our first stop was the ladies room. It was beautifully decorated, had high end, bowl mounted sinks and gorgeous faucets.

We were seated and immediately our wait person brought us sweet rolls, water and menus. He asked us if we had something in mind, made some suggestions and left us to peruse the menu.

J.Marks is known for it's 12 ounce 28 day aged Prime Rib Certified Angus but for lunch we chose the Oriental Salad with tangerine, sesame , noodles, chicken, avocado. It was enormous and we decided to share it. It was delicious from the aroma to the tastes of the lovely ingredients. We had plantain for dessert. We were eating light but you can have a Half Rack of Ribs/$12.95 with sweet potato fries, Crispy Asian Steak, Chicken Madeira/$11.95, Sauteed Shrimp in wine, Veggie pasta/$11.95, Walnut Shrimp/$13.95 and more . You can have burgers in the $8.95/$9.95 range and twelve different sides at $1.95 - $2.95. Obviously the prices are reasonable. Our Oriental Salad was only $7.95 and it was more than enough to feed both of us. It came with delightful sweet rolls for the table.

There are numerous coffees, Illy Espresso/$1.25, Cappucino, Latte/$2.95 and sodas, Power Ade Punch, Luzianne Iced Tea and Home made Lemonade /$2.75

J.Mark's has a renowned, wine list and the bartender,Ashley Kester , is also a wine connoisseur. He would be delighted to help you in your coice of wines.

There is entertainment available, guitarist Michael Bianco plays from 8:30 pm to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays to make your visit even more pleasureable.

Happy hour is 2 p.m. -6 p.m. every day and again from 9 p.m. to closing. You can get the house wines, drinks, martinis and margaritas at half price, and a Yeungling draft is $2. They also offer nine signature cocktails. at regular pricing.

Our service was so attentive we felt like royalty. The atmosphere was lovely and despite the fact that J.Marks looks like a very expensive place and feeds you delightful foods it is reasonably priced and a wonderful dining experience..

Cool! You get charged the same price or higher here at not so high end places. Good find, Susan. Thanks for telling us about J. Marks! :o)

We ate here 3 times a couple of months after they opened last year. The Spinach artichoke appetizer is the best we've ever had. Bread , awesome! Our entrees were good the first two times. Unfortunately, I had come back from London recently, and decided I was in the mood still for fish and chips. Inedible is putting it nicely, burnt batter and salt and pepper heavily covering the plate. I complained, and the waitress said she would inform the chef. Then , my wife told me her friends mother ordered the same fish and chips about 2 months later, and she also thought they were terrible! We havent been back since.
