Review: Joan Rivers Beauty Great Hair Day Fill-In Powder for Thinning Hair
A Beauty Product to Cover Up Hair Loss and Hair Thinning
I have to admit I was a bit skeptical buying a Joan Rivers beauty product. Joan Rivers may be a great comedian and the winner of Celebrity Apprentice, but I never thought of her as a beauty expert. But when Joan Rivers was promoting her Great Hair Day Fill-in Powder on QVC, she said something that rang true to me. Joan said since she had personally been experiencing thinning hair, then surely others were dealing with thinning hair too. So she made it her mission to find and sell a product that would give the appearance of a fuller head of hair.
Joan Rivers Beauty Great Hair Day is a fill-in powder which is applied directly to the scalp with a brush. There are five shades to match your hair color including Light Blonde, Blonde, Red, Brunette, and Salt & Pepper.
When I read the reviews of the product on QVC, many reviewers recommended going a shade lighter than you would expect to go. I have light brown hair so I decided to try the Light Blonde shade. The Light Blonde shade did a good job of reducing the shininess of my scalp. It was like a bronzer which gave my scalp a nice tanned look. My thin hair was much less noticeable once my white shiny scalp wasn't the first thing people noticed when they looked at me.
But I had to use a lot of the Great Hair Day Fill-in Powder to get good coverage with the Light Blonde shade, so the next time I ordered the Blonde shade. I found there is a significant difference between the two blonde shades. The Blonde shade is very dark brown, while the Light Blonde is a very light shade of brown. It would be nice if there was a shade in between the two blonde shades. On the QVC product video, however, Joan Rivers recommends using a darker shade because you want to put a shadow on your scalp.
When I use the Blonde shade I need much less product to achieve the look I want. I just dab the brush in the powder, lift up a small section of hair with my fingertips and apply the powder to my scalp. Joan Rivers recommends using the end of the brush to make parts from the back of the head to the front, but I found this a bit too cumbersome so I just use my fingers to lift my hair.
I am amazed how the Great Hair Day Fill-In Powder gives the illusion that I have more hair. The darker color makes it appear like I have more roots and less thin spots. I love turning a large part into a barely noticeable part by applying the powder along my part line. If you get up really close you can see my scalp has a dark powder on it. But I doubt people would get close enough to notice. Be sure to blend it so it is less noticeable.
The other day my teenage son was standing behind me while I was sitting. I thought for sure he would say something like, "Mom, what's that on your scalp!" But he didn't seem to notice. I also asked my Mom, sister and friend what they thought, and they said my hair looked really good and couldn't tell I was using a fill-in powder.
I have not had any trouble with the Joan Rivers Beauty Great Hair Day Fill-in Powder getting on my pillowcase or running down my face in the rain. It stays on my scalp until I shampoo my hair. I have noticed that I sometimes need to reapply the powder in the evening if I want to maintain my full head of hair effect.
For years I have avoided body-building hair products because those products tended to lift the hair off my scalp which only revealed more of my white shiny scalp. Now, with the Joan Rivers Beauty Great Hair Day Fill-In Powder, I can use all the body-building products I want without worrying about seeing too much of my scalp.
On the Joan Rivers Beauty Great Hair Day Fill-In Powder box, I noticed it claims the powder contains Procapil which fortifies the hair bulb to help prevent hair loss. I don't recall Joan Rivers ever making that claim on QVC. Perhaps Joan ran into government regulations which prevented her from making those claims in their advertising. But if the claims on the box are true, then I'm even more excited about using this product.
I should add that if you are experiencing hair loss or thinning hair, be sure to check with your doctor first to see if medical issues are causing your thinning hair.
I recommend Joan Rivers Beauty Great Hair Day Fill-In Powder for anyone who feels self-conscious about their thinning hair or eyebrows. As far as I can tell, the only place to purchase this product is from QVC, either by phone or through their website: QVC.com. On the QVC website they have some great before and after photos along with a video of Joan Rivers promoting her product.

Post a CommentI find Joan Rivers products to be sufficient between root touch ups. A little light but the next shade up is too dark. Maybe she should formulate new colors with shades in between.
My hair as been thinning for over 20 years, I have been taking a thyroid pill and now have 45% of regrowth since november 2010. I thinks that was my problem all along. What a blessing.

ALI: It's YOU'RE not YOUR. I do get YOUR very important point (have not yet ordered this product, however), but you need to slow down and spell correctly or no one is going to read what you have to say because they will think you are 7 years old.

Very dissappointed that Joan Rivers would align her name with such an inferior product. You may as well use eyeshadow or eyebrow shadow, it would just as well and is much less expensive and you get a lot mor color options. Brunette is black okay if you are African American or truly have Black hair - not for medium brown hair - very noticable. Customer Service is horrid and really does not want to take the product back. You loose half your money - I ordered direct from the product website - product was $19.95 - S&H was $15.95 which is not refundable and you end up paying another $6 to return the product.
i ordered from a website that popped up - you pay $39.95 for one - and a 9.99 shopping expedited. well it has been 10 days - some expedition - and now i found a website where you can buy 2 for $19.99, talk about a ripoff. when I called them - they said well you didn't order from the 2 for $19.99 webiste - I said you have got to be kidding me - I paid $39.95 so I wouldn't have recurring shipments - for one and you have a website for 2 for $19.99 - ridiculous - calling bank to dispute charge - since they wouldn't do anything.
how in the hell can i get rid of this scam. i wish i could write flippin joan rivers and tell her off. i am fed up.she is riping people off.....
This is one big rip off, they keep trying to take &19.95 every month from my credit card, no wonder why Joan Rivers is rich she makes sure she takes your money. Try to get rid of the charges to your credit card is to cancel the card.
