Academics: JWU offers business, hospitality, culinary, technology and education. The academics here is not very different from receiving a high school education. The class schedule does not differ much from high school. Class is Monday thru Thursday, you attend the same classes everyday just as high school. What is great is that you have Fridays off. Class schedule you do not get to make your own schedule your first year. This is a trimester school.
Admissions: Most if not all applicants get in (not competitive). There is no application fee or deadline for admission. You do not have to take SAT or ACT, hence the high tuition.
Instructors/Professors: They are not greatest. Some are very intelligent but are not teacher material.
Tuition: This a private university meaning extremely high tuition, fees, room, and board. There are scholarships and loans available. Current Tuition and Fees for 2007-2008, tuition: all colleges $20,478, General Fee $984
Orientation Fee (charged to new students, fall term entrants only) $255
Life on Campus: This location offers many organizations, Greek life, athletics, and student activities. Organizations such as, accounting association, ad club, black student association, and paint-ball. Residential halls are very nice and large space. Extremely close to one another.
Student Services: Academic support, career center, bookstore, dining facilities, computer access and English language center among many other services. the school offers transportation from one campus to another.
Food: To be a culinary school the food they serve their students is not very good. Did not have a great variety of foods and very bland
Social Life: There is always something to do on campus. Movie showings, speakers, workshops, etc.
City of Providence: The college is within waking distance to the mall, eateries, and clubs. Offers a diverse group within the city as well as school.
Pros: The staff really care about the students and want to be there. There is no application fee and admissions is easy. School is all about community service. Never can be late for class.
Cons: The high cost, your children will be paying off your student loans. Division 3 school they do not offer athletic scholarships. Book buy back is the same as it is everywhere, for example you pay $150 for a book and get back $13. Food is awful. They think are being innovative with being "college of the real world" they are actually stuck in the past.
