Review: Johnson's Pure Cotton Cosmetic Rounds

Katri Marson
I have been on a search for the perfect cotton round, or at least close to perfect. Well, actually more like just a half way decent cotton round. If anyone reading this uses cotton rounds often, you probably know exactly why I just want, at the least, a half way decent one. You too have probably experienced the many cotton cosmetic rounds that claim their strength and then fall apart the moment they hit the water or the ones that make it through the quick faucet soak just to slowly fall apart on your face, nails, or the many other uses.

I was doing quite well. I found a brand, a generic drug store brand, of all things, that I lived up to the strength that many only claimed. Well, long enough after for me to feel secure in finding one that worked for me and that it will always be there, it was gone. Another drug store company bought out the drug store. And, of course, the new company had their own cosmetic cotton round version. Their version equaled the other sub-standard versions I thought I would never have to deal with again. I, once again, was buying the sub-standard versions.

I went to drugstore.com to get some essentials, which included a new batch of cotton rounds. I saw these Johnson's Pure Cotton Cosmetic Rounds, in addition to other brands I already have tried and preferred not to have to buy again. I decided the never tried brand was my best bet and bought the Johnson's Pure Cotton Cosmetic Rounds.

I didn't really expect much when I got them. Even though, the package advertises "Our 100% pure, high quality cotton has just the right combination of softness and strength." Uh, yeah, sure I've heard that before.

The night fell, it was almost bedtime. I needed to remove my make-up and get my face all nice and clean, so I could sleep peacefully. I removed my first Johnson's Cotton Round. It felt thick, thicker than any of the ones I tried before. It was also soft. Sure, it passed the basic feel and weight test. But, next the real test, the faucet. I put it under the running water. It quickly filled with water and then, unexpectedly, puffed up a little, almost like a little pillow. Soaked completely and puffed to its capacity, it was still intact and felt as strong as ever.

Ok, I admit it, I kind of expected it to fail. I still was not completely over the loss of my old brand. With this new brands thickness, strength and even the cute little puffing in the water, it was all so new and unexpected. There was a chance... oh, I can't say it... these might be better than my old brand.

There was still a chance to fail. The third and final test, the actual face cleaning. Though, I had my doubts on it failing. Never in my search had any of the cotton rounds passed with such flying colors. I swiped the cotton round all around my face. Then, I squirted some cleanser on the round and continued to scrub my face. I scrubbed my nose, my forehead, chin, cheeks, back to my forehead, nose, etc. No matter how much I scrubbed, it stayed intact, thick and strong. There was no cotton lint residue on my face. The round stayed completely round, with no separation.

It passed all the test, with flying colors. I am happy. Really, I am. It takes time to get over a loss. Even when the loss is a brand of cosmetic cotton rounds.

I mainly use cotton rounds to clean my face, remove make-up and on occasion remove nail polish. This brand is probably the strongest and thickest of all I have tried. I can confidently say that I am sure they will stand up to all of the many uses of cotton rounds. They are soft and gentle enough to use on a baby and strong enough to use to polish shoes, metal or crafts.

One key thing that was one of the major decisions when I purchased these is that they are bleached with non-chlorine bleach. My search is not completely over. I am still searching for organic cotton ones as strong as these. But, using non-chlorine bleach is a start. It can make you feel a little bit better about using it on yours and your babies skin.

I recommend these for anyone needing a soft, strong, durable cotton round. Whether for beauty or household task, these hold up.

Very interesting and funny. I completely agree, the quest for those those things is a long hard one.
