When you walk into Jose's you are greeted right away and either sat or given a wait time. I actually like it when there is a wait because the bar upstairs is a good time and plus you can get a little snack during happy hour before your meal. Unless you go on Friday or Saturday night during prime time you rarely have to wait. Jose's is such a huge restaurant there is almost always somewhere to be seated. You will not be disappointed by the service, the whole wait staff knows what they are doing and you most likely will get a waitress or waiter that has been there for several years.
The food is good, it's not exceptional and occasionally great but good describes it the best. Now don't get me wrong, there are a few dishes that are excellent but it takes a while to get to them as their menu is so huge. They do have great chimichangas and a real good cream cheese enchilada, but if you are really hungry and love a good burrito, the garbage burrito is the way to go. On the menu they claim that it is so big there is some bound to go in the garbage, it's really good. The prices are really reasonable; I don't think you could spend more than $12 a person on the entree itself. They also have a really good queso sauce that you should try as an appetizer. Finally you can't go without one of their house margaritas, they are extremely good and you need to at least try one once.
Jose O'Shea's is a great neighborhood Mexican restaurant and you really need to try it if you haven't yet. Along with the great nightly atmosphere, they also have a really good Sunday brunch with an interesting menu. If you hit the Sunday brunch early enough you can basically have the whole place to yourself, but if you wait for the after church crowd you will wait for a while. It is worth experiencing at least once.
So, as far as a fun, inexpensive neighborhood Mexican restaurant goes, I would give this one 8 out of 10. If you go and don't like the food, don't give up on it. Keep going back until you find a few things you really like and trust me you will keep going back. Try some of the items I mentioned and you shouldn't go wrong. Also if you want to take the kids it is perfect for that. We take our three year old all the time and he loves it. The atmosphere is such that the kids can be themselves (loud) and you won't bother anyone. Give it a try; I think you will really like it.
