Review of Kabuto Japanese Steak House and Sushi Bar in Greensboro, NC

Kabuto Japanese Steak House and Sushi Bar is located at 1617 Stanley Road in Greensboro, North Carolina. If you're familiar with that area, it's off of Wendover Avenue near the Best Buy and Lowe's. It's also near a number of large hotel chains, so if you're traveling and need to stay overnight in Greensboro, I'd suggest booking a room in the area and giving Kabuto a try.

Kabuto serves customers around teppanyaki tables, so each table has their own chef and server. Unless you're dining with a large group of people at a Japanese steakhouse, you're going to be sitting with strangers, that's just how it is. My only gripe about the seating arrangement is that I wish there was maybe one less seat at each table, just to give you some elbow room. The first time I visited Kabuto there wasn't a problem because my boyfriend and I were seated at the end, but on our last visit we were sandwiched in because one of the other diners was on the large side. On both visits to Kabuto, our servers were friendly and efficient, although we had to inquire about the "2 Meals for $30" special because it wasn't listed on the menu.

For an overview of the menu, click here. Your meal starts off with a broth soup, which can be substitued for miso soup for an additional fee. Entrees also come with a salad. Their ginger salad dressing is very good, but you can also select ranch dressing. After the salads are served, the chef comes to your table to prepare food on the grill. I've noticed that some chefs have a little more personality than others. The first time I ate there our chef was making jokes and doing tricks just about all throughout the meal, but our second chef was a little more reserved and "down to business." I have had two entrees at Kabuto: shrimp and chicken and shrimp and sirloin. The shrimp and chicken were cooked just right, but my sirloin was overcooked. Entrees are served with a generous portion of fried rice and vegetables as well as fried bananas. You are also offered ginger, white, mustard, and hot sauce with your meal. I highly recommend the white sauce.

Overall, I would rate Kabuto five out of five stars. The decor was beautiful, the restaurant clean, the service was good, and the food (despite the overcooked sirloin) was delicious. By eating from the "2 for $30" it was also affordable compared to going to a regular steakhouse, and at Kabuto you get the teppanyaki experience.

Living in hotels while working there for nearly a year I made this a weekly stop at the very least. Some of the chefs are better than others and sometimes a steak will be a bit over cooked if there is a large table and alot of interaction but I would still say it is well worth the visit! The place is packed on the weekends so the weeknight visits are a bit better for the wait but over all.....I LOVE the food and the service is always outstanding too.
