The Kaplan book is a good place to start studying for the test. It divides the subject matter into chapters that are easy to work through. Each chapter is about 10 to 20 pages long. The information is further divided into categories within the chapters in small paragraphs. The book is very handy for preparing because of this feature. You are able to skim over the information you already know and then read the material you are not as familiar with in more depth. The Kaplan book contains more details while the Princeton Review book is more of an outline of the subjects that are expected to be on the test.
One of my favorite features of the Kaplan book is that it has a list of all the important people and what they did at the end of each chapter. I made copies and hung these pages around my apartment so I could learn them. Since linking names to experiments is the part of studying I was having the most trouble with, these lists are a huge help to me. There are also 10 multiple choice questions at the end of each chapter to review what you just read. Detailed answers are given on the next page which explain why the correct answer is correct and why the others are wrong. Two full-length practice tests are included at the end of the book. I plan to take one when I have finished the book to see how far away from my target score I am and how much more I need to study.
I have found this review book to be helpful in studying the test. It is a great place to start because they have done research about which topics are likely to show up on the test and included them in the book. You can use this book as a starting point to figure out what topics you need more work in and look them up elsewhere. The price of this book is a huge bargain compared to the cost of taking a prep class as long as you have the self discipline to make yourself study.
