Review: Kid Cuisine Twist & Twirl Spaghetti with Mini Meatballs Dinner

Even though we do cook regular home-cooked meals whenever possible, between my wife and I both working during the week and being in a bit of a time crunch some nights, we do rely on frozen dinners on occasion. And, from experience, we have found we like the Kid Cuisine meals for our kids; both because they are affordable and because our kids usually love them.

A couple weeks ago, we were stocking up on these and my wife decided to buy the Kid Cuisine Twist & Twirl Spaghetti with Mini Meatballs Dinner for our youngest daughter. We originally intended on using it that night but ended up making something else instead and almost completely forgot about it until a couple nights ago.

There were a couple reasons why she originally purchased this dinner. First, our youngest daughter likes spaghetti and will usually eat it when we have it. And, she figured it would be something different from the usual chicken nugget or macaroni and cheese dinners we normally give the kids. In fact, when we gave this to her the other night, we had no reason to believe she wouldn't love it.

Unfortunately, she hated it.

Unlike her older sister, our youngest daughter really isn't too picky when it comes to food. She almost always eats what we put in front of her at least once and we have found very few items that she doesn't really enjoy. So, the fact she didn't like this really caught us by surprise. But, she took one bite, said "PU" and wouldn't touch any more of it.

Because she didn't nap earlier that day like she normally does, I chalked this up to her just being tired and, giving the dinner the benefit of the doubt, I wrapped it up and put it in our refrigerator. And, not wanting it to go to waste, I decided to have this for lunch the next day.

All I can say is, I agree with my daughter's impression. The spaghetti was absolutely tasteless, even the meatballs. Obviously, I wouldn't want this to be too spicy because it's a kid's meal. But, even kids recognize when something doesn't have any flavor and that was obviously the reason my daughter didn't like this. In fact, I didn't even make it through this dinner either. I took a couple more bites, ate the corn (which I thought was an odd choice for a side dish) and threw the rest away.

I still recommend Kid Cuisine meals if you are looking for dinner for your kids and don't have time to make something homemade. But, I would not recommend this particular variety.
