As you can imagine, my reading habit has caused massive storage problems. Ever since I received the Kindle, I have been going through my bookshelves and packing up whatever is not absolutely necessary in order to donate them to Goodwill.
There are many features to love about the new Kindle. Its light, thin, has 3G wireless which can be used abroad if I ever get the opportunity to travel, fast downloads and a long battery life. If you're a newspaper or magazine reader then you can subscribe to them for a monthly fee and have it delivered straight to your Kindle. Other than that there are no monthly fees.
My favorite feature is the paper like screen. Many times I have had to read books over the internet and the glare of the computer screen makes the experience anything but enjoyable. One of my concerns about getting a book reader therefore was the screen. This is not an issue with the Kindle. I have been able to read without headache for three days now.
There is one concern I have about completely depending on my Kindle for book storage which is why I decided to keep hard copies of my absolute favorite books. A major concern with digital storage is the changing file types. I fear that updated versions of the Kindle might not take the books that I have already paid for even though these concerns might be unfounded. This is an issue that I am currently dealing with on ITunes. When I got a new computer and downloaded ITunes, some of the songs I had already paid for were not added unless I paid an extra thirty cents for the newer files. I never owned a Kindle 1 so whatever I add to this Kindle will be a first buy, but I refuse to pay for something more than once just because they did an update.

Post a CommentI was torn too which is why I am keeping the ones I can never part with
I also received the Kindle 2 as a Christmas gift (not uncommonly, as I am learning) and I am enjoying it very much. My two issues with the Kindle: the menu system is not very intuitive and the difficult to find font sizing.
My biggest concern, however, is that I work with writers who are always telling me or letting me borrow one of their new found books... and they are not Kindle users. Any way to share books with other Kindle users yet?
Thanks for this useful, well written review!
I have been avoiding electronic 'books'.... like the feeling of being surrounded by my books.... but I DO see the future coming and there will certainly be a lot less paper involved.
I suppose your concern will not happen. Amazon has been in the cutting edge e business world for them to commit a blunder like this.
