Review of King's Wok Buffet in Silverdale, Washington

Sally Albright
Recently my family and I visited my old high school town of Silverdale, Wa. While visiting we decided to stop off to get a bite to eat when we came across King's Wok Buffet. It didn't look like anything special with its generic sign hung in the middle of an ordinary plaza. What we found out though was that the outside didn't match the inside.

The inside of the restaurant wasn't anything fancy either. It looked pretty much like any other ordinary Chinese buffet with the plastic chairs and fast food tables. Still, I was impressed with the prices and the quality of food they had to offer.

For my family of two adults, two tween girls, and a toddler (who fit into the free category) our total bill was just $25 for lunch. Usually in my local area this would be the price for just two adult buffets. I couldn't believe the cheap price. I thought that surely this would mean that the food would be subpar.

Once we entered the buffet area you could see that this was a popular local restaurant. There were so many diners but it was still easy to maneuver around the buffet without bumping elbows. One thing that I had noticed that was different about this buffet compared to the ones back home was that you serve your own drinks. No more waiting for refills.

There was also a separate area filled with many different Sushi laid out attractively. I can tell you that they were delicious as well. The restaurant offered the typical egg drop, hot and sour, and wonton soups as you would find at most other buffets. I was impressed with the fact that they actually had wontons for the wonton soup. Most places run out and take a long time to refill them.

The buffet had most of the same items as you would find in most other Chinese restaurants such as the General Tzo's Chicken, Fried Rice, and Spring Rolls. They also had Kalbi, or a Korean marinaded beef short rib, which didn't quite compare to my mom's but it was still very delicious.

Unfortunately one our visit the ice cream machine was out of order. My family and I always have a bowl whenever we eat out for Chinese. The dessert selection was a bit disappointing with just the chocolate pudding offered. Most other restaurants offer cookies and macaroons as part of their dessert menu but they weren't found at King's Wok.

Overall, my family and I enjoyed eating at King's Wok buffet and would recommend it to anyone who lives in or is visiting Silverdale. Their cheap prices and great food just might tempt me to visit my old high school town again in the near future.
