Review: Kinos Sandals in Key West, Florida

Denise Wilke
My husband and I were in Key West recently for Fantasy Fest and we found the most delightful place to purchase sandals. Kino's in Key West is on a little side street just off Mallory Square. Parking can be somewhat of a problem but there is a parking lot a couple of streets away in Mallory Square that is a couple of dollars an hour if you cannot find a spot on the street that has a parking meter.

This store is owned by a Cuban family and they have all family members working there. They have sandals that you slip your feet into and others that have a piece of braided (soft) cord between the toes. They also have men's and women's sizes from size six to size 13. They have a few selections for children but not too many.

The nicest part of this store is that you can see the sandals being made. They are all leather and will last forever. I have had several pairs that are over ten years old and still going strong. When you go to this store there is only a limited color selection each day. The first day I went this year the style that I like they only had in off white and brown. I bought a brown pair and a grey pair for men. I hesitated to purchase a pair for my daughter in law since she has so many pairs but I thought she might like a brown pair. I went back the next day and all the browns were gone.

Each day they make so many in one color and change to another color the next day so if you go back several days in a row you will probably get the colors you were looking for. They range in price from $10.00 a pair to $13.00 a pair for all leather. A great bargain since they last forever and are so comfortable.

The store is open from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm every day except Sundays. They take debit cards, Mastercard, Visa and American Express. Go early as later in the day the selection will not be as great since the cruise ships dock a block away and it can get crowded once the passengers disembark.

I highly recommend this store.

I like the Original Key West Sandals that you can purchase at the Beach Bum on Duval in Key West or on line. We have been purchasing them for more than 50 years. They also have a website keywestsandalfactory.com. I'm willing to pay a little more for the original Key West styles that have the slip resistant bottom for walking or boating. Kino's have a very slippery sole.
