Review of Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang

Acting in Hollywood Can Be Murder

Kenneth Flickstein
Life in LA can be dangerous, especially for someone new to town. With all of the Hollywood parties, beautiful women and murder, it can be real trouble.

Harry Lockhart (Robert Downey Jr.) is a poor excuse for an east coast thief. He and his partner botch a toy store job and run. Following the death of his partner, the subsequent police chase leads Harry to an audition for a role as a private detective in a Hollywood production. His "method acting" style earns him the role immediately and he is winged to the west coast.

Harry is introduced to Gay Perry (Val Kilmer), a flamboyant private eye who has been asked to give Harry some lessons for his new role. Working for one of Gay's clients, they observe more than they were expecting. Harry soon learns that parting with the rich and famous can be murder.

Just when I thought the days of the gumshoe novels were over, long comes "Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang". This movie recreates the intrigue and romance of a Bogart era movie yet, the writers manage to throw comedy at you like running water. Unlike the movie "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid", it's not attempting to spoof the genre, but rather revive it for a modern audience.

This movie is meant to be seen in the theatre. This is not so much for the "Big Screen" effect, but rather more for audience reaction. You will get swept up in the emotional roller coaster of drama and comedy and enjoy this over-the-top romp through Hollywood's back allies.

Warning: This movie is not for kids. It contains violence, language and nudity. It also contains witty banter that will go right over their heads.

Use your entertainment dollars wisely and go see this movie.

Enjoy the show.
