The Kitsap Humane Society sometimes has a variety of pet-related items available for sale. These are great gift items for the non-pet owner to buy for family and friends. Available on a daily basis, all one has to do is look around the lobby area at what is available. I once found a couple great dog bowls for only $.25 each. That just cannot be beat!
There are a variety of fund-raising events held throughout the year by the Humane Society. Not all in attendance are pet owners. It is comforting to know that by simply attending these events and making a donation, the Kitsap Humane Society will benefit. For instance, around the year-end holidays, there is usually a Holiday Auction. In addition to having a variety of pet items available, there are numerous household items for sale. I purchased a beautiful, hand-knitted throw that is exquisite for only $10.
During the summer months, there is likely to be an outdoor auction/fundraiser. When I have attended, it was located in a variety of tents - making for a nice, browsing atmosphere. Items found here can include anything from furniture to dishes. It is just fun browsing around and knowing whatever is purchased is a total donation to this great place.
A non-pet owner can walk into the Kitsap Humane Society and check out all the pets available for adoption. There is something comforting in being able to pet the animals, make eye contact, and simply look around. It is indescribable inasmuch as it does something for the soul. In addition to checking out the animals, information is posted on the pens about the animals. The more information, the better, I say. It is nice to be able to see that the animal gets along well with children. Or, reading that it does not get along with children makes for an easy decision maker for a household with children. One can also read about the shots given and when. Any medical history is also listed.
Well, there you have it. The next time you think about the Humane Society, don't just think about the pet adoption part. Remember that they even help non-pet owners in a variety of ways.
The Kitsap Humane Society is located on Dickey Road in Silverdale, Washington.
