Review of KJW M9 Full Metal Pistol

Chris Chen
I recently acquired the KJW M9, which is a full metal gas operated pistol. I really needed a sidearm to pull out if my primary weapon ever ran out of ammo because I primarily play CQC. This gun averages 310 FPS on my chronograph and comes with some sweet features. This gun is easy to field strip if you need to and the slide and frame are both made of high quality metal. The safety is also ambidextrous to accommodate both preferences. When I first held this gun in my hand, the weight and feel made me forget I was only holding an airsoft gun. Another one of the realistic features that this gun displays is the blowback. However, you have to be careful because if you don't realize it, you have a good chance of injuring your hand when you shoot. The orange tip is also a little difficult to remove so putting a silencer on this gun is probably going to be very difficult. As with any gas blow back pistol, you are going to have to clean and lube very often to prevent the gun from breaking.

Also, there's no mount for optics but I'm sure you can find a side mount that is sold separately for a reasonable price. Personally, the iron sights work just fine for me and I would not spend the extra money to buy the side mount unless I was totally missing targets. The magazine holds a total of 26 plus 1 round that you can chamber. You can empty the magazine in a couple seconds if you need to but you can never really tell if you've filled the magazine well enough with green gas.

The detail on this gun is amazing. When the gun is cocked, the trigger moves backwards just slightly and makes the shot that much easier. The full metal feature definitely feels great. However, there are also some flaws that mar the quality of gun. The paint is fairly cheap and seems to chip easily. The magazine seems to be of low quality because the gas leaks from this thing very easily. The safety is also ambiguous so you can't really tell when the gun is fully in safety. Overall, this gun is great for the money which is $99 dollars on most internet sites.

Not a topic near and dear to my heart, Chris, but your excitement and vivid description are well worth the read. Enjoyed it as much as I ever would - and find your piece competent and very thorough.
