Review for Kudos 2

James Kent
I had the fortune of playing the demo version of this game and quite enjoyed it. The game itself is nothing hugely innovative or unique, but strangely addictive. In style it would be described as a role playing game. Often these types of games have a central theme and Kudos 2 is no different as it centres on getting the balance right between work and play. The game starts by choosing a character, which can be either male or female and certain clothes items can be selected to fully customize the character. Whatever choices that are made have little impact on the start of the game. Generally the character is someone 20 years old and has a job as a waiter/waitress. They also have a few select friends.

The general idea is to build up a strong amount of friends, be social and take evening classes to get a better job. This process is harder than it seems because your character only has a limited amount of money and your friends will not like being ignored. In fact reject too many requests to go out and you will lose the friend. At certain points throughout the game the player must make choices between going out with a friend and taking an evening class. There is always the option to hang out on your own by doing things such as watching TV, going for a jog, cleaning the house or just having a rest on the couch
.
The choices you make throughout the game will affect certain things like the sort of person you are and how happy or lonely you will be. Clearly the idea is to find the right balance between going to work, hanging out with friends, taking evening classes and spending time alone. There are a few other choices as well such as how you will get to work and while looking for a new job you can gain promotions. I really enjoyed playing this game because it was fun to try and get the balance right between work and socializing. I frequently found I was rejected requests from friends because I wanted to take an evening class, so it's a challenge. The game play is quite fun because although it's similar it is fun to try and accomplish certain things. There are also a few sound effects which is a neat touch. Overall I give Kudos 2 a rating of 4/5.
