Review of LA Fitness in Roseville, Minnesota

Lots of Cardio Equipment Means No Waiting for a Machine!

Jessie Kay
Opened in 2009, the Roseville LA Fitness is a new gym conveniently located off of I-35W, just outside of downtown Minneapolis. This large, two-story facility is clean, well-maintained and filled with the latest cardio and weight machines. Cardio equipment is plentiful--both fitness floors offer hundreds of stair steppers, treadmills, bikes and ellipitcal machines. All cardio equipment faces a bank of television sets offering radio tuning services and closed-captioning. I visited the LA Fitness in Roseville, Minnesota on a guest pass to see if I'd be interested in joining. Here is my expereince.

I visited the LA Fitness in Roseville, Minnesota during the after-work rush (5:00 PM) and was expecting to wait for a cardio machine--I was pleasantly surprised that, despite the crowded parking lot, I did not need to wait for a treadmill to open up. I could simply walk up to the machine and start in on my workout. I'm someone who likes to 'get in and get out' when it comes to the gym, so this is a huge plus in my book.

This family-orientated gym offers plenty of entertainment for children, aged three months and up. This LA Fitness has a Kids Klub, which is the gym's child care service. However, I do not have children so I can't really review it. It looked well-maintained and the children inside appeared to be having a good time. From climbing walls to toys to slides, children are kept busy while their parents work out. Additionally, children are also welcome to play racquetball with their parents and are allowed on the basketball court during open gym, with parental supervision. Children are not allowed on the fitness floor, however. Which, in my opinion, is a good thing--I wouldn't want to go to a gym that had children wandering around the weight machines.

Group fitness classes are held throughout the day and include classes such as yoga, step, kickboxing and hip hop dance. Racquetball and basketball leagues are also offered to all interested members. I tried out a step class on one of the nights I visited--I thought it was welcoming to new members and great for beginners. However, as an advanced 'stepper' I found the routines a bit too basic for my abilities.

Locker rooms provide plenty of shower stalls, lockers, private changing areas and hair driers. However, members must provide their own towels--towel service is not offered. This is one aspect that I didn't like--I guess I'm used to Lifetime Fitness, where they provide towels. I could see this being an annoyance--I would hate to come to the gym after work and find that I forgot to bring a towel!

This brand new facility has a friendly, customer-service orientated staff of personal trainers, fitness instructors, sales staff and front desk team members all willing to answer any questions you might have about membership or reaching your own fitness goals. I thought the staff was very nice, and the fact that I didn't have to meet with a sales rep to use my free guest pass was a big plus in my book. Each personal trainer has their own rates, so if you're thinking of hiring a personal trainer at the Roseville LA Fitness, consider interviewing a few of their trainers to get a feel for their qualifications and find out about their rates.

Membership Rates at LA Fitness in Roseville, MN

Membership rates vary throughout the year, but typically range from $20-$30 per month. New members are assessed a one-time joining fee, however, this is occasionally waived during promotional periods. Prospective members can print a guest pass from the website. Members can also update their account information and pay their bill online. Memberships are all on a month-to-month basis and can be cancelled at any time without penalty. In my opinion, this is a great deal for the Minneapolis/Twin Cities area.
