Review of the La's 1st and Only Album

Well, they only made 1 album but nobody made a better one back in 1990.

A young group with fresh ideas and a lead vocalist who had a 'hard to put your finger on it' quality in his voice that made this album unique. 'The completely perfect rasping pop sensibility of 'There she goes' is the best known track for obvious reasons and I hope the group has raked in all the royalties due them from all the covers & advertisements featuring this song. However, dare I say it may not be the best song on the album? It is the most instantly accessible pop-wise but my favorite track here is 'Timeless Melody'.

Mature beyond their year's songwriting. Just compare these songs to some of the posers that are around now doing kind of American-Pop equivalent of 'Brit-Pop' but without the balls. This record hit a time and place that sounds and feels unique. When the emerging British indie scene had some real talent. It also didn't hurt that this album's cover helped make this album instantly recognizable, both visually as well as audibly.
