Review of The Last Song

Allie Bojko
My sister went to see this movie over the opening weekend and she remarked that it was one of the best movies she's ever seen. I had my doubts because she says that about every movie she see's because I'm a little skeptical myself. I decided to swallow my pride and take her word for it and in doing so I saw it for myself. I'd have to admit for me being a guy watching a chick flick I didn't expect it to be as good as it was. In the movie The Last Song it's really Ronnie a rebellious teenager played by Miley Cyrus that adds a little interest to the movie. I was quite shocked Miley Cyrus did indeed play a pretty good rebellious teenager it may be because that's probably her real persona in reality.

It's amazing how great Miley Cyrus and her on and off screen actor made their chemistry in the film as real as their off screen one. Every scene that they appeared in together seemed very believable maybe because their not acting in character but as real time lovers. If they didn't know each other personally than their acting onscreen might not have been as good as it was.

Greg Kinnear was absolutely fantastic in this movie as always, he played the role of the evil father since he did walk away from his family. At times it was like every character in the movie had their own sense of ambition or problem all at the exact time. He certainly goes way and beyond this role and wasn't that much surprised that he took this role because not many actors can pull it off like him. It was also a little to much for him in the movie to bear because he was constantly looked upon as a terrible uncaring father as everything was blamed on him from his daughter Ronnie. It certainly at times was too much since Ronnie the rebellious teenager, spends some time with her estranged dad and everything was totally placed on his shoulders for being the burden for the break up and the separation of their family.

The movie in several scenes can seem a little rushed and could also be a little misunderstood if taken out of context. The plot did have some glaring pot holes that kept me asking myself it didn't answer my questions because some of the story's plot seems to be missing. It seemed as if their were some aspects of the story that were left out and that's probably why I didn't quite understand the whole story.

I didn't love this movie nor did I hate it but I would certainly recommend renting it from your local video store when it does come out on DVD. My sister who did read the book said that it is a lot better than the movie and that they did leave a lot of the character's and well the the story's major points. But yet again, it was somewhat of a decent movie, since Greg Kinnear was in it and that he took every scene that he was in. I also liked the surprising twist in the movie because it was really unexpected as is all of Nicolas Sparks idea's.
