Review: Leap Frog Brightlings Builders by Leap Frog

Introduce Your Child to Blocks

Arthur Kirk
Leap Frog is known for creating educational toys. There isn't a lot of educational value in the Leap Frog Brightlings Builders by Leap Frog, but your young child will have a lot of fun with them. They teach the early concepts that blocks will reinforce. When I first saw the Leap Frog Brightlings Builders by Leap Frog I thought they were just little characters that your child plays with, I was wrong though. These toys are little blocks that your child puts together to form rectangular characters. After building the characters you child is rewarded by each of the characters doing something a little bit different to entertain them.

I know I said the Leap Frog Brightlings Builders by Leap Frog doesn't present a lot of educational challenges for your child, but actually it did teach my son the basics of colors, sizes, and shapes. After playing with the Leap Frog Brightlings Builders by Leap Frog he did start to recognize the square shape when he saw other objects that were square. He also learned how one piece can go on top of the other without falling off. To complete a Leap Frog Brightlings Builders by Leap Frog character your child needs to put together a base, middle and head. There are three of each of these pieces in the set. After completing their character, the character will be about 8 inches high and do one of three actions. Those include shaking, rolling, and lighting up. My son when we was between the ages of six months and one and a half years old really enjoyed these toys. He quickly lost interest in them after that age range though.

What I can best compare the Leap Frog Brightlings Builders by Leap Frog to is the old round colored rings that we used to have which you stacked on a pole. As you probably remember those rings were not very entertaining at all. At least the Leap Frog Brightlings Builders by Leap Frog teach the same stacking concept and are a little more entertaining than those rings. As parents some appealing factors of the Leap Frog Brightlings Builders by Leap Frog include that they are easy to clean, and do not come with very many parts, so chances of losing them are slim. The only negative is the age range for this toy tends to be a very narrow period of time. Once your child is over a year and a half there are much more interesting toys for them to play with.

  • The toy these compare best with are the stacking rings.
  • There is more entertainment value in the Leap Frog Brightlings Builders.
  • The set includes 9 pieces including 3 heads, 3 middles, and 3 bases.
These pieces are large enough that they will not pose a choking hazzard for your child.
