Review of a Lexmark Printer

A couple of years ago, I was given a nice All in One P3150 Lexmark Printer which was exactly what I needed to fit my needs. It was compatible with Windows XP, printed quality photos, scanned, copied and printed documents crisper than ever. I was really happy with my Lexmark Printer but I never thought that it would end up as a paper weight when I had to purchase a new computer.

Last year, my three year old Sony Vaio Laptop lost its backlight and I was forced to purchase a new computer. I decided on buying a new Sony Vaio since I still liked the design and programs. The only thing that I was a not a big fan of which has been a popular complaint is the new Windows Vista.

As soon as I brought my new laptop home, I was already having problems with it detecting a bug when I plugged in my mouse or my external hard drive. I had to bring my Sony Vaio back to Circuit City so they could install a patch in order to fix it. The biggest problem that could not be corrected with a patch was that my Lexmark Printer driver was not compatible with Windows Vista.

I visited the Lexmark Printer website and connected with the live chat support available. I love this feature on websites, it makes it so easy. The Lexmark Specialist assured me that the company was still in the process of creating drivers for the new operating system Vista and that I should check back often for the new driver. After about a month, I went ahead and purchased an inexpensive, $20 Lexmark Printer from Wal-Mart that only prints documents.

My $20 Lexmark Printer came with a black and color ink cartridge and I realized that buying a new printer for this amount was cheaper than buying the ink cartridges individually. In any case, I still needed the functionality of my All in One Lexmark Printer so I continued to check with Lexmark. Finally, after speaking to another Lexmark Specialist they informed me that Lexmark was not able to make a driver that would work with Vista. This meant that I could never use my Lexmark Printer with my laptop. They did offer me $10 off a new one which is too little way too late, in my opinion.

So I ended up purchasing an HP All in One Printer and it has fit my needs just as well for much less than what I would have paid for a new Lexmark. The whole process of waiting for a driver, then the disappointment of not being able to use my Lexmark Printer has left a bad taste in my mouth and because of it, I may never purchase a Lexmark again.
