Review of LG 50PS80 Plasma HDTV Review

I have been very lucky over the last few years since I have been given the opportunity to own a good amount of electronics. I have also had the displeasure of owning a lot of electronics that were less than what they had advertised when I decided to buy them. Because I had some bad experiences in the past with expensive electronics I was hesitant to get a new HDTV for fear of it breaking or not working correctly. However, I decided to buy the LG 50PS80 model for my latest HDTV at the end of last year. I purchased their 50 inch model from Best Buy and I decided to buy the Best Buy Black Tie protection plan with the TV that costs $12 a month. After owning this HDTV for some time now there are many things that I enjoy about the TV and some that I do not.

One of the biggest reasons I purchased this TV was that the single glass slim look of the LG 50PS80 reminds me a lot of the Apple design of the iMac because they have a similar black matte finish and the LG 50PS80 is about two inches thinner than the Apple iMac. The LG 50PS80 works with Yahoo and YouTube for no charge and the content is streamed directly to the set. You can also stream NetFlix directly to the TV if you have a subscription with their service. In addition to these features the LG 50PS80 has the ability to connect with your home network and play streaming music, video or pictures. What makes this TV unique is that you can stream content direct to your HDTV if there is nothing on TV. There is also a Yudu option that allows you to choose high definition video and pay for the content before you view. I also like that the LG 50PS80 has an input for connection your computer and this is helpful for faster transfer of files.

The problem with this LG 50PS80 is that the black levels never come through and the picture looks foggy. I tried adjusting the picture because the picture quality still looks to be covered by a white film. This TV was $1500. I also owned their 32LD350 HDTV 32 inch model that cost me $500 and the picture quality was a lot better. However, there were no interactive features and the signal within the TV became blurry after six months and the TV was unable to play any videos at all without problems.
