After several days of research I finally found myself late one Sunday afternoon calling appliance stores in hopes of obtaining a LG Tromm Steam Washer and matching dryer and getting it delivered in time to have clean pants, shirts, and unmentionables for work on Monday morning. The local Best Buy said, yes, they had them in stock at the warehouse and I could pick it up that day, but the warehouse would close at 6 PM. It was 3:30.
We were considering the awesome blue color for our new washer, but one glance at the price difference for the same model in white vs. blue made us decide that white was a very nice color indeed.
I rushed to the store, made the purchase of a white LG Tromm steam washer and dryer, and then drove over to the distribution center, which fortunately was only 20 minutes away. My wife was elated when I arrived home with our new laundry units strapped in the bed of her pick-up. After about two hours disconnecting the old, connecting the new, and reading the instructions we were ready for the initial trial run to ensure the new washing machine was nice and level. The instructions said to run a test cycle using 6 lbs of laundry. We guessed at it and shoved a hefty comforter and several bath towels into the machine. We had a rented DVD movie to watch that night but didn't get around to it. Instead my wife and I sat mesmerized watching the back and forth tumbling and spinning of the clothes in our new 4.0 capacity front-loader. We kept getting pleasant little surprises like the cool blue LED light that illuminated the interior of the drum, and the musical tone it emitted as we turned it on.
The test run went fine and it was time to start a real load. My wife had the thing stuffed with more than three times the amount of laundry we had ever run in our old machine and she was getting ready to fill the detergent drawer with soap when I finally read the part of the user manual that said only to use high efficiency detergent. It was past midnight. But there was a week's worth of laundry waiting and nothing to wear tomorrow, so off to the store I went.
I returned with the correct detergent and we processed our first official load. When it finished, we were astonished at how well the 1320 rpm spin cycle had taken the water out of the clothes. Drying time was cut in half as a result.
It's been over a month and the LG Tromm isn't as entertaining now because it's so quiet and efficient as it sits in the laundry room and does its job. We don't even think about it any more unless we're loading or unloading it. My wife loves the capacity and all the wonderful features, especially the steam functions that remove wrinkles and freshen clothes that don't need a full washing. She never has to iron anymore and she now does in one load what used to require three. There have been no problems with leaks (something I saw complaints about on line with other front-loader brands), and the controls are easy to understand while providing amazing flexibility in cycle options. The blue LED display panel on the front would make the LG Tromm Steam Washer a perfect fit for the laundry room of the Starship Enterprise.
Less water usage, cleaner clothes, and faster laundry processing have really made the LG Tromm Steam Washer worth the purchase price for us.

Post a CommentOur 2 yr old washer is coming up with a OE code but the lines are clear and it seems that the motor is shot and not draining the tub. Guess what .... the warranty expired last month
I too am a disappointed customer that purchased a set of LG Tromm front loading washer and dryer from Sears. We researched for months and never buy on a whim. I miss my original set! Relatives used to compliment the softness and pleasant smell of my laundry. I only use Tide products and never use liquid softeners in the washer. I clean the rubber folds, leave the door open between loads...even though it is a pain because the laundry room is a galley-style through way to the garage. I have to wipe the door constantly to remove lint and hair that accumulates. The clothes don't smell sour but don't smell fresh or pleasant either. They are dingy and show every mark or spot that has ever gotten on them. Of course it is most obvious with whites. I'm talking about normal, every day use dirt, not things like grass or mustard. I buy white towels so they can be bleached, (plus the bathroom is beach theme). Doesn't matter ALL whites, even pre-treated or mild dirt, comes out nasty, dingy, dirtier a
I am in shock.
After running several tub clean cycles on my LG WM2487HWM, there is old dirt and scum still caked to the exterior of the stainless steel tub, nestled between it and the rubber seal near the door opening. This is dirt that you can plainly see comes in contact with water during regular wash cycles. Utterly disgusting.
the reason for the big fabric conditioner compartment is that you can use liquid starch in there if you do a load of mens formal shirts or a set of bedlinen, much easier than spraying your garments with aerosol cans of starch before you iron them,
I've never had a problem with mold...before or after getting this washer.
Does the steam feature cut down on the mold? I'd love one of these but I'm none too keen on installing a mold machine in my house.
We bought a LG washer and dryer set from Sears. DONT BUY LG!!!! I will not stop until everyone knows. Also SEARS customer service is pathetic. I had my LG washer 3 weeks it vibrated a little, then it started shaking my house, and knocking pictures off my walls! I called the sears customer service 1-800 number. I didn't know that Sears relocated there customer service to India. seriously couldn't even understand the guy. 2 WEEKS later I got the LG service man out. He needed a part to fix my machine. he said all parts for LG washers take 2-4 weeks to get from the LG factory in Korea. Anyways I retuned them to Sears. Then my husband and I went to The MAYTAG Store here in Federal Way. What a difference from Sears. We found a large capacity MAYTAG 9000 series STEAM front load Washer & dryer. Our sales person Joey actually knew what he was talking about. He answered all of our questions and more, Then I asked him, "What if it breaks?" He said the most amazing thing..."You call me personally
I was browsing online to see if anyone was experiencing what I was with the lg tromm washer. I actually sprung for the blue model a year and a half ago. I noticed about 6 months ago that towels especially were coming out of the dryer so sour smelling. I clean the slim, constantly run the clean tub cycle and it was back to normal for a while. Now nothing I do is making the clothes come out smelling fresh. I really want to cry! I bought the matching dryer and the drawers, plus remodeled my laundry room to make the washer and dryer a feature and looking at my receipt I paid $3097.28 for this nightmare. Anyway, someone mentioned there was things that could be bought to get rid of the mold and suggestions for particular detergents to use. What are they? I'm willing to try anything. I do think the washer does a fantastic job cleaning and I've seen a significant drop in my water bill, however they were way to expensive to have clothes smelling like mold.
OOPS! I thought that the first comment I left had all gotten in there. I waas trying to make it so you could read it from the top and it be continuous. Oh well. The last sentence of the first comment posted on 7/28/08 should read:
I hope this advice helps people, and that people don't get turned off by this washer because of the bad reviews by people that aren't even following the directions that come with the machine, and then blaming LG for not doing anything about it. If LG discloses that mold will grow right in the user manual that everyone SHOULD read (this is a high tech washer, I was afraid to use the darn thing before I read everything!), then it is not LG's problem if people do not take the proper steps to keep it from happening.
This is a wonderful washer, my clothes are cleaner, and they are lasting longer because the washer is gentle. Don't base your decision to buy on people that don't even read the instructions.
The reason these washers build up mildew around the door is that it makes a water tight seal. When you wash clothes and then immediately close the door, there is water in there and it is not possible for it to evaporate, cause mold to grow. The reason LG will do nothing about it is that it clearly states in your owners manual that you must run a tub clean cycle (it does not, however say how often to do it, at least not in version of the manual that I have. Depending on the amount of laundry you wash, once every two weeks or once a month should be fine, if you wash a ton of laundry, once a week would probably be good.). The tub clean cycle DOES require that you use bleach, just to sanitize the tub and kill any mold. If you have a sensitivity to bleach, like some of the people that I have told this to, then just run another cycle on the hottest setting for the longest time (a sanitize cycle) to rinse the bleach completely from the tub.
