Review of Liberty Tree Tavern: Magic Kingdom, Walt Disney World

The Liberty Tree Tavern restaurant is truly a hidden gem in the Magic Kingdom. Not only does the Tavern offer scrumptious food, it's also a way to take a break from the park and the crowds. The restaurant is located in Liberty Square. The Liberty Tree Tavern is a Colonial style tavern that offers a la carte lunches and an all-you-care-to-eat character dinner.

On a recent trip to the Magic Kingdom, my husband, my daughter, and I paid a visit to the Liberty Tree Tavern at lunchtime. (We had never tried this restaurant and wanted to go but wasn't thrilled with their dinner menu. We are more adventurous eaters so lunch suited us better.) We had advanced dining reservations so we got in what we thought was the check-in line. We noticed that the lengthy line was barely moving so my husband went to see what was taking so long and to see if he could check us in. He came back, we by-passed the line, and we took a seat in the open lobby area. It turned out that the people in line were trying to make reservations for another time or were trying to see if there were any immediate openings. I did witness one cast member tell the potential customer that the earliest she could get his family in would be the next day.

Once we checked in, we listened for our name. (No pagers here.) Cast members in colonial dress called out "Now seating the ______(family's last name) from the great territory of ________(family's state of residence).

Once we were seated our server took our drink order while we debated on what appetizers to order. My husband ordered the soup of the day ($5.50) and I ordered the crab cake with corn succotash ($7.50). Our daughter and I shared the very filling crab cake. There wasn't a lot of breading on this, mostly crabmeat. (A big plus for me.) I really didn't care much for the succotash. For our main course, my husband and I each ordered the Colony salad ($13.50). We both felt it was a good choice. The salad was good and light. It is a huge salad and we both had a lot left on our plate after eating our fill. We didn't want to overstuff ourselves because we wanted to have room for dessert. (That and it wouldn't be long until dinner.) For dessert, my husband ordered the Three Chocolate Brownie ($6.00) and I ordered the Strawberry Shortcake ($5.50). Our daughter doesn't like strawberries so this time it was time for my husband to share. The dessert was big enough for the both of them.

Other Main Courses: William Penn Chicken Pasta, New England Pot Roast (one of their most ordered dishes),and A Pilgrim's Feast (Turkey and sides)

Our daughter did order her own dish. She ordered the beef and macaroni which came with two other built in dishes (veggies and a fruit salad). The fruit was supposed to be her dessert. The cost of her meal was about $7.50 and it included her drink. (All came out at the same time on a Mickey shaped plate. Plate and two bowls to the sides.)

As previously mentioned, the Liberty Tree Tavern is home to a Thanksgiving style feast featuring Goofy, Pluto, and Minnie wearing colonial attire. Dinner is brought to the table on platters consisting of turkey, pork loin, carved beef, and all the fixings. Dinner is priced at $28.00 for adults and $13.00 for children. Character meals offer a great chance to interact with the characters on a one-on-one basis. Be sure to have your cameras and autographs book ready when the characters come to your table. (You might just capture a very rare moment on film!)

We used the dining plan to pay for our meal here. If I were paying out of pocket, I would feel that this restaurant is a bit over-priced. (Don't get me wrong, the food here is really good.) I feel that ordering everything individually tends to be expensive when Disney offers so many buffets at lunch at much cheaper prices.
