It was about 30 minutes before closing when we arrived and I asked if they were still serving and the hostess (who was also our waitress) said yes and showed us to a table. There were not that many patrons in the restaurant and by the friendly banter the waitress had with one of the other tables, I could tell it was a place that regulars like to visit. It's not located in the tourist part of town (aka downtown Morro Bay and the Embarcadero) but set apart from the popular part of town close to the freeway.
The décor had only a few ethnic aspects and was instead warm and welcoming. The booths are red and padded. We sat comfortably as we waited to order. Chips are salsa was given to us right after we sat down and both have a nice flavor.
I ordered the beef taquito platter and it came with rice and beans. I also had a salad and was intrigued by the avocado salad dressing that was available. I tried it and it was OK, not overly impressive but it also worked to dip a few of my chips in. The taquito's were delicious (it's one of those dishes that are hard to mess up) and came with guacamole and sour cream. My plate also had beans and rice. I didn't find the Mexican rice that good and left most of it.
My partner ordered the enchilada dinner with all rice. I tasted the enchilada's and we both agreed that the sauce used didn't taste that good (which was disappointing). We took leftovers to a family member who had stayed at the hotel room and she also agreed that the sauce and the Mexican rice didn't meet our expectations.
The prices were on par with other restaurants in the area. Not to cheap, not to expensive.
Honestly the most impressive thing about our dining experience was our waitress. She was very nice, checked in with us often and brought us anything we needed. She made us feel very welcomed, like she was actually glad that we stepped into the restaurant where she was working. The food was only so/so but the service provided was so good that I'd go back just to see if we got that same level of service. Good service is getting harder to find and I really was grateful to how nice our waitress was.
Going on a five star scale, I give the food three stars based on what I tried and the service five.
