Review of "How to Look Good Naked" Hosted by Carson Kressley

When "How to Look Good Naked" first debuted on TV, I didn't think I would have any interest in watching it. The commercials were humorous, but not enticing enough to make me want to spend an hour watching a show that I didn't think would have any depth or even entertainment value.

Several weeks ago we switched to Comcast and I discovered the On Demand feature that offers some television shows and movies pre-recorded. Unlike TiVo, I didn't have to lift a finger. I spent several weeks watching some of my favorite shows during my spare time until I ran out, and then Carson Kressley's show caught my eye again. My husband and son were out of town, the little ones were in bed early and I had a little time left over for myself and decided to watch the show with a bowl of popcorn.

I was so surprised by how different the show was than my expectation. I was watching women who actually looked like myself, and neighbors. Not rail thin with perfect make-up, hair and clothing! Many of these women had the same imperfections you or I might have. We dislike some part of our body, or perhaps are just worn down by family obligations and life in general.

Carson Kressley is amazingly disarming, and sweeps into each woman's life like a breath of fresh air. Although he can be a bit flamboyant, his outgoing nature makes it easy for the women to become swept up in the excitement. Carson uses some fun and innovative approaches to help women to overcome our misconceptions about how we really look. So many women, myself included often look in the mirror and see things out of proportion to the reality.

One of my favorite reality checks that Carson Kressley uses is to take two large tanks with a small platform in the middle. On one side the tank is labeled "bigger", on the other "smaller". As woman after woman steps up onto the platform, the woman he is working with will determine if the person on the platform is larger or smaller than herself in a specific area. All of the women are in bra's and panties, so you would think it would be easy to tell, but most often, Carson has weighted the deck and the women being displayed are all larger. Yet are usually placed in the smaller tank.

After a fun shopping spree with Carson Kressley's excellent fashion advice, it's off for make up and hair. Then a photo shoot in the buff! At this point you might be thinking, how can this be on prime time TV, but the fashion shoots are all tastefully done, first with a loose robe and strategically placed scarves for example, then the robe comes off and the scarves will become the only coverings. Each show has some variations, but all in all, they are a heartwarming experience as the woman becomes more comfortable with herself and her body.

As a grand finale, Carson Kressley has one more trick up his sleeve! Usually tying in with a dream or prior passion of the woman, she will end up performing in some way from dancing, singing or being in a fashion show which culminates with the unveiling of a large portrait from the photo shoot.

Although the target demographics for this show are 18-34, those of us in our 40's and up will enjoy the show and learn to appreciate ourselves in the process. I would encourage women everywhere to watch the show! Two thumbs up for Carson Kressley and "How to Look Good Naked!"
