Review: Lord's Cafe Bar in Southport, England - Superb Continental Food and Delicious Coffee
On a Recent Trip to Southport, England, We Ate Several Times at Lord's Cafe Bar
On a recent trip to Southport, England, the woman who owned the hotel we stayed at recommended we eat at Lord's Cafe Bar. Only open for breakfast and lunch, it was apparently a town-favorite and so, without further adieu, we tried it. After just one visit for lunch, we loved Lord's Cafe Bar so much, we ate there several times during our trip. A wonderful stylish cafe with great food and lovely staff, if you're in Southport, England, you must try it.
Location of Lord's Cafe Bar - Easy to find, Lord's is on the town's most famous and most visited street, Lord Street. It's close to the end of the street near the roundabout and has several tables set up on the sidewalk sectioned off with brown fabric panels, so, if you're walking towards the roundabout, it's on your left hand side. You really can't miss it. They open at 9:30am most mornings and close between 4:30-5:00pm.
The Food - Enjoyed for the more upscale atmosphere, Lord's is loved for its food. The restaurant only serves breakfast and lunch, but has a huge menu for both meals with some of the freshest, tastiest continental food I've eaten off the actual European continent.
For breakfast, you'll have a selection of items like scrambled eggs with mushroom or bacon, cheese breakfast melts, breakfast panini sandwiches stuffed with sausage, mushroom and scrambled egg, or if you want something simple, a toasted tea cake, a pastry or a muffin. Don't miss the coffee either. It's delicious.
At lunch time, the menu gets even larger. On two occasions, I ate the salami, mozzarella, and tomato panini sandwich, which comes with a small side salad. If we'd had time to go back again, I would have eaten it for a third time, it was that good. We also tried the shredded duck wrap, the cheddar cheese and red onion panini and a serving of Icelandic prawns, which were to die for.
Lord's also serves sharing platters, salads and a variety of excellent homemade soups, perfect in the cold Lancashire weather.
Prices at Lord's Cafe Bar - One of the reasons why I would guess Lord's is so popular, other than the amazing food that is, are the prices. When you walk in and see how lovely and chic the restaurant looks, you expect lovely and chic prices. That's why, before we were recommended to it, we'd just passed it by.
Surprisingly though, most items we ordered were in the £3.50 - £4.75 range ($5.50 - $7.50), which is extremely inexpensive for the quality of food, the taste and the stylish atmosphere. Three of us ate lunch at Lord's, including drinks, for around Ã'Ã'£20 ($31.75), which was cheaper than most of Southport's pubs.
If you're in Southport, either on business or vacation, I highly recommend eating at Lord's. The cafe hs won several awards for its food and service and, frankly, I'm not surprised.
You'll find Lord's Cafe Bar at 659 Lord Street in Southport.
