Review of L'Oreal Color Pulse Concentrated Color Mousse

So your kid wants to dye her hair, and you don't want to stifle her creative expression. At the same time, you don't want her to do something that's, well, permanent.

There are a variety of nonpermanent hair dyes out on the market, but one of the most popular ones is L'Oreal Color Pulse Concentrated Color Mousse. L'Oreal Color Pulse is very easy to apply, comes in fun colors, as well as natural ones, smells great, conditions hair, and is affordable. However, though it is essentially nonpermanent, it does not wash out in the promised time. Also, depending on color and hair type, the dye does not always change hair to the color it states that it will.

Color Pulse is a complete kit. It comes with instructions, the coloring mousse, and plastic gloves. The dying process involves washing your hair, massaging the color mousse (which is conveniently non-drip, though it does sometimes splatter) into your hair from roots to tips, letting it set for thirty minutes, then rinsing it out. Though it is possible to color your own hair, it is easier to complete the dyeing with another person helping.

While Color Pulse comes in several natural colors, such as Cool Blonde, Punchy Brown, and Lively Auburn, it also comes in fun, offbeat colors like Chill Plum and Funky Cherry. The dye doesn't have any ammonia or peroxide in it and has added perfume, so it smells pretty good. Also, unlike most dyes that strip your hair dry and damage ends, this one conditions while dyeing. Color Pulse is also very affordable. At less than four dollars a box (at most stores), it certainly won't break the bank.

The dye is a nonpermanent one and promises to rinse out within 8-10 shampoos. While it will fade quite a bit in that many washes, it takes much longer to completely wash out. It might take a couple of months to completely wash out.

Also, the dyes do not always dye as they should. While the Chill Plum and Funky Cherry both worked well (and came out with nice shades of purple-pink and deep red, respectively, on light brown hair), the Cool Blonde didn't do much to light brown hair. In fact, all it did was take out the natural highlights.

Color Pulse is a good, easy-to-apply dye that will work well on most hair. However, don't expect miracles from it-it is only a temporary hair dye, after all.

  • Color Pulse is easy to use and nonpermanent.
  • Color Pulse is affordable.
  • The dyes do not always dye to the color they should.
While Mary Magdalene was often depicted with red hair in ancient paintings, the effect may have been caused by the paint fading from brown over the years.

Hello, I used red cobber frizz several times in my brown hair, and I adored it! Mostly because I was unable to find that orangey colour anywhere else on the market that was not a permanent colour. My colour faded after 2 months, then gradually vanished altogether. I have hair down to below my butt so I was cautious about my hair, but since it was brown the red ended up going out completely. I loved it while it lasted, and I miss this product so much since it was discontinued.

I tried the electric black on my medium blond hair. I figured it would wash out in about two weeks, as the box suggested. After about a month, my hair was a this disgusting faded blue-purple color. I went to a salon to get it bleached, and only ended up with light pink hair!

For everyone with light hair that isn't pleased with the product, it's stated on the site and on the box that it is not recommended on blond/light hair.
It will actually stain your hair, while on darker colors it's just a tint.

I've used different colors of this stuff and the color does stay in for quite some time. But for me I thought that was awesome since I wanted it as something more than a short, one-time thing. I have dark brown hair and the black does make it more purple-y, the red stayed in my hair (albeit as subtle highlights) for quite some time (about a year) and the chilled plum looked pretty cool. I think my favorite was the cherry, though.

I feel I should probably also mention that this is not something you should use on highlights (also mentioned on the box, I believe). Processed hair, especially processed with bleach, is far more porous than virgin hair and will absorb color much more easily and be much harder to get rid of. If you do decide to use this on your highlighted hair, use your highlight color as your reference for choosing a shade, not your base color.

First of all, I would like to point out that, as a Level 1 non-permanent color, this cannot lighten your haircolor at all. The only way to make hair color lighter is by using some kind of bleach, which is very very permanent. This is why trying to "temporarily" dye light brown hair blond is not going to work. I have used this stuff before in the plum and cherry colors on my dark dark dark brown hair, and the most it can do is give me subtle highlights. I, however, expected nothing more, given the non-permanent nature of the product.

Along the same lines, people should perhaps pay attention to the packaging before using this product. It tells you which natural hair colors are appropriate for which shades... For instance, the plum color is only to be used for dark-haired people. If you put a lot of purple dye in your blond hair, you really shouldn't be surprised if it never washes out completely... they put all that crap on the package for a reason!

I just used the Chilled Plum, and I love it. It looks great, but I definitely should i paid more attention to the ends of my hair because i missed some spots down there.
