Review of L'Oreal H.I.P. Intensely Moisturizing Lip Color in "Courageous"

The Pen
I've been a big fan of the L'Oreal H.I.P brand ever since it's debuted a few years ago. I am African-American and I love makeup and it really used to suck when I'd go to a drugstore and I couldn't find a lot of colors that would look good on me from traditional makeup brands. I think L'Oreal was the first one to come out with a brand that had a wide range of brighter and bolder shades that not only looked good on women of color but on women who just wanted cool colors that you could only find in department or makeup stores.

While I've been a big fan of L'Oreal H.I.P., I don't buy lots of it because it is more expensive than other drugstore brands, and if I can't try it on I'm not going to spend a ton of money on makeup unless I know for sure I'll like it. But when I saw that CVS was having a 75% off sale on some of their H.I.P products I knew that was a perfect opportunity to try one of their lip products.

I bought a tube of the Intensely Moisturizing Lip Color on sale for about $3, in a shade called Courageous that I figured would look good against my skin. It comes in a small black tube and the Courageous shade looks a lot like the color of an old penny, it's coppery, brassy, and bronze at the same time, but it has a pearlescent glow to it as well.

When I tried it on at home I thought the lipstick did really look good against my skin which is golden brown, and it brought out gold highlights in my hair and eyes. I do like lipstick colors in the bronze family, but Courageous is a little darker than what I'm used to, I normally buy more golden colors. But nonetheless this color does flatter me a lot and I got the Lip Color for 75% off, so I have no room to complain.

For some reason I didn't think that the H.I.P. Intensely Moisturizing Lip Color would be moisturizing, (I didn't notice that its name was Intensely Moisturizing, because I was too busy running to the register after I grabbed it) I just expected it to give me lots of color, and I hoped it wouldn't dry my lips out.

But I was really surprised at the quality of this lipstick. It has a creamy feel to it as it goes on, and it has a silky feeling to it afterwards. I didn't need to use a lot in order to get a true color and the lipstick felt really light like I was wearing a lip balm. It lasts a few hours before it needs to be re-applied but I don't mind because it does feel so silky.

I really liked it and I wear Courageous at least twice a week now, though I sometimes blend it with gold lipstick to make it a little lighter during the day. I will be buying the L'Oreal H.I.P. Intensely Moisturizing Lip Color in this shade again for the full price of $10 when I run out, 5 out 5 stars.
