Review of L'Oreal H.I.P. Metallic Shadow Duos in "Gilded"

The Pen
I bought a compact of L'Oreal's H.I.P. Metallic Shadow Duo in the Gilded shade recently, because I really needed a gold eye shadow to highlight my brow bone and the inner corner of my eyes and just to use an eye shadow in general.

I found the H.I.P. shadow at CVS and it cost $7.99. It comes in a circular black compact with 2 eye shadows shaped like semi-circles on the upper portion of the compact. The lower part opens and contains a mirror with a small eye shadow sponge applicator inside.

The Gilded shadows are metallic shadows and one color is a warm gold or mustard shade and the other shadow is a charcoal grey color with gold flecks mixed throughout it.. The Gilded shades are complimentary and they both are really intense.

When I tried the colors on at home I did like them. L'Oreal H.I.P. is the first line that I've seen with a compact that holds a warm charcoal colored shadow instead of a cool based one. It's the first one I've seen that gives people with warm skin a really flattering smoky eye.

The H.I.P Metallic Shadows were really intense and true. The gold shade in Gilded did work as a highlighter for me, but it also was flattering as an eye shadow for my golden brown skin too.

The charcoal color is really interesting, I've never seen an eye shadow in that color its looks grey but it also looks like a dark mossy green color as well because of the gold flecks. It complimented my skin when I used it as an eye liner and when I just used it as an eye shadow. It can look really sheer and pretty if used the right way.

The H.I.P Gilded Duo reminds me of something Nicole Richie would use because she's always uses a dark shade to line her eyes and a gold metallic colors as a shadow.

My problems with L'Oreal's H.I.P Gilded are that both colors are really dramatic and I think they work best when you're wearing them at night because they are so intense. I wanted an eye shadow that would look cute during the day, but even the gold shade is a little dramatic and over the top for the morning.

Also although the colors can be hard to wear, the gold made me look a little sickly until I added mascara and other makeup and the charcoal color has the potential to look a little gangrene if you don't use enough of it.

I would recommend it to women with warm skin tones especially those with dark brown skin because they could pull the Gilded shadows off. It's a little too high maintenance for me even though I do like both colors. 4 out of 5 stars.

Thanks for the great review...I also just bought eyeshadow that I later found out was really only good for the evening. Excellent work as always!
