It was not more than a few weeks ago that I had muddled through a long hectic day of work for which I finally arrived at my doorstep at eight o'clock in the evening. I was gassed, but super hungry and my wife had fed the last of the previous night's leftovers to our kids. Both of us had not eaten dinner, so I opted to grab some carryout from a taco restaurant in local Saint Charles. The establishment is known as Los Burritos Mexicanos #3 and is located at 2125 West Main Street. For those familiar with the area, it is the former pizza hut site located on the south side of route 64 relatively close to the Randall road intersection. The food is served for carry out as well as dining in customers.

Menu

I am always up for visiting a truly tasty authentic Mexican restaurant. While I am guilty of visiting the corporate giants such as Chipotle and Taco Bell, I much prefer the down home family owned Mexican restaurants. Low and behold, Los Burrito's Mexicanos has the menu I have been looking for. Whether your pleasure is tacos, tortas, fajitas, burritos, or sopes, this restaurant has it all. The food is all made fresh to order and these folks even make their own chips, salsa, and guacamole right there. The restaurant even has a small cooler by the counter for some fresh salsa to go. That is pretty darn convenient when hosting party or having the crew over to watch a ball game. Those that decide to dine in at Los Burritos #3 also have the option to accompany their meal with an ice cold Mexican beer or even some homemade horchata.

Taste

I ordered my food to go which consisted of the "regular" size steak burritos. The burrito selections are plentiful as one can get chicken, steak, pastor, and a variety of other ingredients. The burrito also came loaded with the other typical ingredients of cheese, beans, lettuce, and tomatoes. The burrito I ordered was hot and extremely delicious. The burrito was accompanied with some spicy green salsa that made the food even tastier. I purchased the same meal for my wife who opted for the milder red salsa version which surprisingly had a spicy kick on its own. The regular size burrito set me back about five bucks which I consider pretty cheap for a dinner. Had I wanted to spend a few extra bucks and had not eaten all day, there was the super size burrito which equated to the size of a football.

Service

The gentleman that rang up my order was very helpful in answering my questions as I was a newbie and wanted to know more about the menu. The order was prepared quickly and I was out the door in less than five minutes. While waiting for my order, I observed about four tables that had some really tasty looking meals that appeared to be an assortment of tacos, fajitas, a steak ranchero sort of dish, and more burritos. I noticed the patrons were enjoying glasses of freshly made horchata and watching some soccer on the televisions located in the corners of the restaurants. There was only one server roaming the floor, but she appeared to provide quick cheerful service.

Overall

I think Burrito's Mexicanos #3 is a winner for a satisfying authentic Mexican meal. The menu options are numerous, and the service appears decent. I like the competitive prices and really appreciate the convenience of having quick high quality Mexican food within a few miles of my home. Perhaps my next visit will be dining in for some fajitas and horchata.
