Jack and Kate first met Daniel when they saw him falling to the island, he then asked for their assistance to find the other members of his group who he could locate with his phone because they were all wearing tracking devices. When they found Miles, he appeared to be injured, Jack went to help him and when he got close Miles pulled out a gun. Miles then demanded to see Naomi's corpse, we are led to believe through his flashback that he can communicate with the spirits of dead people.
After Miles sees Naomi, and somehow confirms what Jack and Kate told him had happened, Jack notices Juliet and Sayid in the trees behind them and informs Miles. Miles and Daniel are forced to give their weapons to Jack and Kate. Meanwhile, Charlotte is found by Locke and his group of the survivors who don't trust the "rescuers." Soon Jack, Kate and the people they are traveling with discover that Charlotte's locator is attached to a dog and realize Locke has her. After realizing what has happened to Charlotte, they see a flare over the island which they determine is from the helicopter pilot and head in that direction.
When the find the pilot, Frank, he tells them that he was able to land the helicopter successfully and shows them its location. Jack then forces Miles into telling them their real reason for coming to the island. Miles informs them that they are there for Ben. Meanwhile Locke is questioning Charlotte and during their talk Ben gets a gun and shoots her.
Luckily for Charlotte, she was wearing a bullet proof vest (strange for a rescue mission). Based on Ben's actions Locke decides he is not worth the hassle and decides to kill him. Before he pulls the trigger however, Ben begins shouting information about Charlotte such as her birthplace and time and her history. Ben then reveals that he knows the team has come for him and that he knows this because he has a man on their ship. Of course there are many new questions about the show after this episode, and very few new answers.
Viewers wonder why they are trying to get Ben. How they new where to look for the island? And why, if the news reported that all the Oceanic 815 passengers were dead, are none of the rescuers surprised to find them alive?
