Book Title:The Lost Symbol
Author: Dan Brown
Audience: Adult
First Impression: Snappy pace carrying a slew of questions this reader was anxious to learn the answers to right from the get-go. The exact Dan Brown writing style and format I loved with Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code.
Plot/Style/Voice/Characters: Brown's style and voice rank high, making him one of my "go to" authors. He interjects the characters' personal quips about things, which gives the third person point-of-view an almost first person feel. Of course, it helps that Robert Langdon, Symbol's main character, has appeared in the two aforementioned novels above, so I felt as though I was tagging along on yet another wild adventure.
Best Part: For this reader, the best part of the novel, apart from the race to crack the code, can be summed up with a quote from the book itself. "Small minds have always lashed out at what they don't understand. There are those who create...and those who tear down."
Irritations: None that come to mind. Had the last couple of chapters not been riveting to this reader, I might have thought they were just filled with added content to extend the word count. However, those added words sure packed a powerful punch and made me think.
Wrap-Up Reaction: Brown cracks another one. For those who enjoyed The Da Vinci Code and/or Angels and Demons, The Lost Symbol likely won't disappoint.
