Review of Loveland Groves, Inc. in Edgewater, Florida: Local Indian River Citrus Company and Gift Fruit Shippers since 1945
Edgewater, FL 32132
United States of America
In business since 1945, the Loveland Groves company consists of Indian River oranges and grapefruits, providing some of the best local citrus, due to the fertile soil. The more fertile the soil, the nicer the flavor. Their oranges are extremely juicy and succulent, and are boxed and shipped as gift baskets all over the state and to Canada. This area is known for its quality citrus, and you don't have to live here to experience the taste and health benefits of a quality fruit.
They sell card-board boxed citrus, and do combination gift baskets as well. Along with their popular line of gift baskets, they also make their own ice-cream, which is swirled with their Indian River oranges, a tasty, naturally sweet treat that is a favorite of the locals. They also sell orange juice and other thirst quenchers, that are too delicious to describe. It tastes like the freshest of fresh squeezed, but without the dreaded pits.
The building in their Edgewater location, around four miles from New Smyrna Beach, used to be a processing plant, but now serves as the main shop for gift items, citrus and more. You can special order your gift baskets in person, or online at the website. If you ever get the chance to journey to Edgewater, when in town, stop in to sample the local flavor, and browse the shop. It's a cozy atmosphere, with a traditional old-fashioned American "flavor". The shop reminds me of one of those old Florida gift stores, with kitschy and useful gadgets, souvenirs, and most importantly, edibles! Stop in and say hello to Melissa, the original owner's granddaughter.
The business was started by Percy Loveland, a Chicago native who moved to Edgewater. He and his son Tom retired from the business, and now Melissa along with her partner carry on the tradition of fine citrus and treasured gift baskets, year round. You can special order any basket, and around the holidays they even have locally made, key-lime pies.
Here are just a few of the items available, from the website. Boxed trays, fancy baskets, fruit of the month club, specialties, tangerines, grapefruits, red navels, honeys, and much more.
