Review: Lub D Hostel in Bangkok, Thailand

Hands Down, One of the Best Hostels in Bangkok

Wendy Rose Gould
I recently got back from a 2 week stay in Bangkok, Thailand and for the duration of the trip I stayed at Lub. D hostel. Just so you know, Lub D, in Thai, actually translates to "Sleep Well" and that's exactly what me and my fiance did every night.

This is not your typical hostel. Let me repeat: this is not your typical hostel. Honest to goodness, it felt like we were living inside of an IKEA and the "double room," which comes with a LCD TV, queen sized bed and private bathroom was more like a hotel room.

Location

The location of Lub D. hostel is wonderful. It's off BTS stop Chong Nonsi and within walking distance of Sala Daeng, Patpong, River City, Silom Village and the night market at Lumphani Park. It's nestled away from super-busy Silom and Siam road and very safe, to boot! There are plenty of shops just around the corner, along with restaurants and other venue types.

Safety

Lub D. is a very safe environment. They use a keyless access system (use electronic card to get in) and in the double and railway twin room provide electronic lock boxes. The dorm rooms have lockers for your convenience. I heard a story about a girl losing both her digital camera and phone and both were returned to her within 24 hours.

Atmosphere

People from all over the world stay here and everyone gets along pretty well! I saw ages ranging from 8 years old to 60 years old. Family friendly, but also a good place to meet young individuals who are wandering around the world! In the evenings you're likely to see a group of people drinking together outside and listening to music.

Cleanliness

Our room was cleaned every single day and there is not a time when I didn't see someone cleaning. Everything is spotless and it smells great! Also, there is no smoking allowed inside the hostel so you won't find any smoke residue in your room.

Bathrooms

I did use the public bathroom several times and once to take a shower. The showers (in the shared bathroom and private bathrooms alike) boast hot water and are powerful, not like other hostels' showers that only provide a pathetic trickle of water! The bathrooms are very, very clean and really nice, too!

Cost

Prices vary depending on the room, but my fiancé and I stayed 12 nights for under $250 USD (and that's in the highest price room). They often have promotional discounts if you book online at www.lubd.com. The other rooms are fairly priced, as well. For the dorms, you're looking at about 385 baht a night (which is approximately $11 at the moment). The most expensive room is double that, but in my opinion well worth the money.

Perks

Lub D is one of the few hostels in Bangkok that has air conditioning in every room. It also provides free, unlimited use of the internet to all those who are guests and free WiFi in your room. This hostel also provides a hearty breakfast every morning for only 60 baht per person (approximately $2). There is a laundry room with fair prices and a tour booking agency open daily for your convenience. Such nice, nice perks!

I've never heard of this place. Will have to add it to my list of places for friends to stay when they come and visit me in Bangkok - sounds lovely :-)

Very cool. I never thought a hostel could be so nice.

Nice review. It does sound rather high-end for a hostel. Thanks for the tip!
