Review of MAC Eye Kohl in Buttery - a Product Review

A Must-have for Anyone Who Needs to Look Awake

Layla A.
It may look unorthodox compared to more popular pencils like Smolder; however, Buttery holds its own in my makeup drawer. The perfect highlight- it is a must-have for those wanting to make tired eyes look more awake.

COLOR

While everyone thinks of butter as a light pale yellow, Buttery is a silver-beige. It is not anything like I would have thought; however, I love it just as much. In certain lights it is different colors ranging from gold to a rich white. It is very wearable and subtle, perfect for slight definition and other eye highlighting purposes.

FORMULA

Buttery is an eye kohl with a great creamy texture. It is not too soft like some other eyeliners I have used, and glides over the eye for a perfect liner. It has great color payoff and staying power, staying on all day. Eye kohls can be smudged immediately after application, but after a few minutes, they're on whether you like it or not. The formula Is perfect by eyeliner standards and great for people with limited time to apply makeup.

FUNCTIONALITY

Buttery is wonderfully perfect as in inner-corner highlight or a definer, but I don't think I would wear it alone as an eyeliner, since you probably won't be able to see it. Since it is in pencil form, it is great to apply on the go, and is very portable. While Buttery's use may be slightly limited, it does what it is supposed to do flawlessly.

SMELL

This may seem like a weird category, but I have used eyeliners that smelled disgusting. Eye kohls, luckily, do not have a horrible smell. They just smell like the wood on normal pencils.

PRICE

Buttery was a limited edition eye kohl, however, eye kohls retail for $14.50 for 1.45 grams of product- just about the amount of a MAC eyeshadow for the same price. To me, this seems pretty decent since Buttery is one of those pencils you don't use extremely often or that much of.

PACKAGING

The packaging is nothing special- standard MAC packaging. It is a skinny black pencil with a colored tip correlating to the color of the product. It is portable, chic, and definitely not tacky.

FINAL OPINIONS

I absolutely adore Buttery eye kohl. While it does have limited use, it is quite possibly the best inner-corner highlight ever introduced in the makeup world. If you can get your hands on it, it is a must-have, however, it is discontinued. The other eye kohls are just as fabulous and are available at MAC counters, MAC stores, and maccosmetics.com. Buttery is a saver when you need to look like you're paying attention and is very easy to use for any level of makeup expertise. I recommend it in a heartbeat!
