Review of MAC Pigment in Pink Pearl

Gorgeous, Gorgeous, Gorgeous!

Layla A.
So, I love lipstick and I love eyeshadow. That's fine. But, my number one love and obsession is pigments. I have hundreds of pigment samples (lots of them duplicates) ranging from Mutiny to Pink Opal to Deep Purple to Antique Green to Pink Bronze to Vibrant Grape. Well, you get the picture. I was watching a YouTube video one day and the person was using a MAC pigment from the Heatherette collection. Unfortunately, I missed out on this collection in stores, but when I saw Pink Pearl, I immediately swapped for it. Luckily, someone was very sweet and I got it the next week. Lo and behold, the prettiest pigment in the universe.

COLOR

Pink Pearl is one of those multi-colored pigments. In the jar, it is a medium tined pink, reminding me of Swish Eyeshadow. Once swatched, it is blue, purple, pink, and every color in between. This color is also gorgeous applied over blacks and other dark colors because it will turn a beautiful indigo. This is probably the prettiest color I own, only second to a sample of Deep Purple. If anyone knows where I can obtain that, leave me a comment! I will worship you forever.

FORMULA

Besides being the most gorgeous color, Pink Pearl is also the softest pigment I have ever tried which is good and bad. The bad being it is not quite as pigmented with one layer. The good being it is super silky and easy to blend. It is shimmery, but the shimmer adds to the amazing colors and all of their transitions. As mentioned before, it is a dream to blend and can work well with lots of other finishes and colors.

FUNCTIONALITY

While pigments are slightly messier than eyeshadows, this particular one is really functional as you can get so many colors out of it. Depending on how many bases you use, Pink Pearl could be a complete look with an array of different shades all from one pigment. Pigments are not good for on-the-go, but can be used as much more than eyeshadow. Pigment can be eyeliner, nail polish, blush, highlight, and even lip products, in some cases, body shimmer. Pigments are extremely versatile and functional, this one being a great candidate for at least four of the above categories.

PACKAGING

This is where it gets complex. MAC recently changed the packaging of their pigments, outraging many loyal customers. They are now taller rather than wider and only have about half of the original product in the jar for the same price. But, let's face it. Makeup artists excluded, when have you ever used a full jar of MAC pigment?

PRICE

MAC pigment sells for $19.50 at maccosmetics.com, MAC stores, and MAC counters. You now get 4.5 grams of product, but that is still a lot considering how much you use in application. This pigment is no longer available, but you could probably find it online somewhere. However, it is available as a Pro item, and you can purchase it at Pro stores.

FINAL OPINIONS

For me, it was love at first sight with this pigment, everyone else that has seen it loves it. However, it can be difficult to come by. If you find a jar, I strongly suggest at least seeing it and buying it if you like it. If you like pink, you are bound to love this pigment. It really does look like a pink pearl.
