Review of MAC's Dame Edna Trio in 'Royal Tour'

Purples Are a Girl's Best Friend

Layla A.
This is the second of two reviews featuring the Dame Edna Eyeshadow Trios. Enjoy!

COLOR(S)

The trio in 'Royal Tour' features my favorite eyeshadow colors- purples. First, you have 'Royal Tour'. 'Royal Tour' is a light lilac-lavender color, and goes on very true to color. This is a great highlight for a pink look or for something in spring. Next to that is 'Dame's Desire'. It is a gorgeous red-based purple color with no shimmer, and goes on very matte. It is an outstanding lid crease color, and also works well as a bold lid color. The last color, and quite possibly the prettiest, is 'Climate Blue'. It is a very deep, blue-indigo color with purple shimmer/glitter. When applied, the glitter is very faint and subtle, but still there, tying together 'Climate Blue' and 'Dame's Desire', making them look great together.

FORMULA

I was actually shocked by how pigmented 'Royal Tour' was. It is quite rare for me that a MAC highlight color or a satin in a limited edition item is pigmented, but this one applied very smooth, pigmented, and blendable. 'Dame's Desire' is the next most pigmented, a frost, and goes on blendable. It is not as pigmented as one would hope, but very decent color payoff. The last color, 'Climate Blue', is perhaps, the most disappointing formula wise. When swatched or put on, you have to pack on the color to get what is in the pot, but I think it is worth it because of how gorgeous and deep this color is. I did have problems with the darker colors staining a little bit, but nothing makeup remover can't take away.

FUNCTIONALITY

I think this trio is more functional than the 'Wisteria' trio, but still not ideal. It is THE perfect spring look because the colors remind me of blooming flowers, a wonderful color palette. They are way more pigmented than the 'Wisteria' trio, and come in the same portable compact. Overall, a win in functionality.

PACKAGING

The packaging is the same as the other trio, purple with the red glitter glasses. It feels very sturdy and has an amazing mirror, so that is a plus. They are a good size for a purse, almost better than a regular quad because they are shorter, and have an excellent clasp.

PRICE

Originally, these retailed at maccosmetics.com, MAC stores, and MAC counters for $36. Unfortunately, the Dame Edna collection has come and gone, so these are no longer available. However, with most limited edition items, allcosmeticswholesale.com will frequently have these in stock, so make sure to check there if you are interested.

FINAL OPINIONS

For anyone who loves purple, these are a dream. The colors look gorgeous together, you get an array of finishes, the packaging is adorable, and the pigmentation is really good, comparatively speaking. I do recommend these for purple lovers, but anyone looking neutrals can pass this by. It may be hard to find, however, I have seen these on eBay and actually got mine there. I do really recommend this one, more so than 'Wisteria' and hope that you at least see it, because it really is amazing.
