Review of MAC's Dame Edna Trio in 'Wisteria'

Icy Blues and Smoky Silvers

Layla A.
Quite possibly the cutest packaging in MAC history would have to go to Dame Edna. Something about the purple with red glasses, adorable. A lot of people complained about the packaging on the lipsticks and lipglass because the red glasses were a sticker. However, the eyeshadow trios have the glasses imprinted, so there not going anywhere. I have to say, these trios win inside and out. This is the first of two reviews featuring the Dame Edna Eyeshadow Trios. Enjoy!

COLOR(S)

The Wisteria Eye Trio has features three colors, none of them extremely similar. First, you have 'Fineshine'. 'Fineshine' is a light, very shimmery silver blends very well. It can be layered for the intense silver look, or blended for a nice highlight color. Next to 'Fineshine' is a light turquoise color with some nice silver shimmer. It almost reminds me of a toned-down version of Urban Decay's Peace. Finally, you have 'Divine Night'. It is a nice charcoal color with shimmer, but probably the least pigmented of the three. However, it does make for a really great smoky eye.

FORMULA(S)

In the 'Wisteria' trio, you get one lustre finish and two of the veluxe finish. As most other MAC limited edition products, these are not their most pigmented products. However, 'Fineshine' and 'Wisteria' actually get pretty decent color payoff. 'Divine Night' requires a bit of working with, but they are an overall good product. They blend pretty well, but you will see some fallout with 'Fineshine'. These colors do work together in a nice, dark spring look, but in most cases, a separate highlight color will be needed.

FUNCTIONALITY

I don't really know what to say when it comes to functionality. This trio does have a very well sized mirror, and the compact is extremely sturdy. Are the colors suitable for everyday use? I'm going to have to say no. They are really great for smoky eye with a pop of blue, but would I wear these to work? Not me personally. They are very fun for the weekends and random occasions.

PACKAGING

This is, without a doubt, the first draw to the Dame Edna trios. It is medium-toned purple metal with a light purple, plastic panel on the front. On the panel, you have silver, shimmery dots and a pair of glittery, red glasses. It is super cute and the perfect size for a purse. I also think that the materials used to make these are sturdy enough to withstand and issues in a purse.

PRICE

These originally retailed for $36 at maccosmetics.com, MAC stores, and MAC counters. However, they are not available anymore. If you really want one, eBay is a great place to find them and sometimes allcosmeticswholesale.com will have them.

FINAL OPINIONS

Personally, I really love the wisteria quad as blues and grays look really good on my brown eyes. However, if you do not like packaging or don't have time to work with the darkest color, you may want to skip on this. It is pigmented enough, but not if you are going for a bold, dramatic look. Overall, something to look into if you love MAC like I do.
