Review of MAC's Heatherette Trio in Heatherette Trio 2

Soft, Girly Colors

Layla A.
This is the second of a two-part review featuring the Heatherette trios.

Unfortunately, MAC was not creative enough to give them real names, so they are called Heatherette Trio 1 and Heatherette Trio 2. A huge surprise for me since MAC is usually so good with names. This is the review of Heatherette Trio 2.

COLOR(S)

When I first see this trio, I immediately think: girly-girl. These three colors are the perfect colors for that girly-girl who loves pink and purple and loves wearing them as eyeshadow. The first color in this trio is called Baby Petals. Much like Heatherette Trio 1, Baby Petals (the first color) is a light, frosty pink that swatches like one. It is a great pinky-nude highlight, at least for my skin tone, and really compliments the other two colors. The next color is called V.I.P., and this is your classic pink with silver shimmer. It is not quite a hot pink, but definitely a slightly muted version of a hot pink. It is super pretty and super pink and really compliments brown eyes well. The last color is called Cassette and it is a dark purple. When swatched, it almost looks more black than purple, but it is gorgeous as a liner color.

FORMULA(S)

In formula, the Heatherette trios are a total win for me. Just like the first one, Heatherette Trio 2 has my favorite finishes: a frost (Baby Petals), a veluxe (V.I.P.), and a veluxe pearl (Cassette). Also like the first trio, they go on beautifully, just like the permanent frost, veluxe, and veluxe pearl colors. Baby Petals goes on as a creamy white-pink, V.I.P. goes on as a medium pink with barely any shimmer, and Cassette goes on as a sultry purple. They blend very nicely together and all of the colors complement one another. Now, while a super dark purple may be too dark for a teen, they can use the first two on their upper eye and use Cassette as a liner, which really works great.

FUNCTIONALITY

I actually think this trio is very functional. The first two colors are soft and subtle, making for a great everyday look, and the dark purple makes for a great complementing liner. It is rather hard to make Cassette look natural, but it is really great on the lower lash line. These are great spring and summer colors, making this a good product for lots of different occasions and uses.

PACKAGING

The packaging is the same as Heatherette Trio 1: huge mirror, sturdy metal packaging, cute, pink compact, great clasp, and a great size for any purse. These are super-portable and feel good in the hand.

PRICE

As mentioned in the first review, these originally retailed for $36 at maccosmetics.com, MAC stores, and MAC counters, but are no longer available. This particular trio is available at allcosmeticswholesale.com right now for $36.99, but if you are interested, I would snatch one up quickly as their stock changes constantly. You can also find these on eBay.

FINAL OPINIONS

Out of the two trios, I think that one has more wearable colors and suits a broader audience. I really like this trio and find myself using it all the time. It is well-pigmented, goes well together, blends nicely, and has really good staying power. These colors are also really easy to build up or tone down, depending on the use. I highly recommend either of the Heatherette trios, but especially this one for the girly colors and array of uses and looks that can be done.
