Review of the Magnum Double Caramel Ice Cream Bar

Ok, I'm always one for anything ice cream. I admit, it's a big downfall of mine, but really, who doesn't love ice cream? After watching the commercial for the Magnum double caramel ice cream bar, I pretty much whined until my better half conceded to make a trip to the store to quiet my rumblings. He returned with two, (one of each kind) and with $5.18 less in his pocket. Oh, yeah, they are not cheap by any means. At $2.59 each you really have to want it to spend that kind of money on an ice cream bar.

Magnum Double Caramel Ice Cream Bar is actually a product of Italy launched in 1989, (Magnum was the first hand held premium ice cream) but now is distributed by Unilever in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. When I saw that it said Unilever on the package I immediately thought of soap, and almost changed my mind, but since we're talking ice cream, Belgian chocolate, and caramel here, I thought, what the heck -- most likely there wouldn't be any soap in my ice cream bar. LOL!

First thing I noticed after opening the decadent packaging was an extra bit of chocolate at the top as if they had made a mistake and not created the perfect shaped ice cream bar. Of course, after biting into it and realizing that it was filled with a lovely mouthful of caramel I was convinced that this was no mistake, but a nice little bump of extra gooey goodness added for special effect to tease you into what was in store.

It didn't take long to devour the entire Magnum double caramel ice cream bar, as the size is about the same as most other ice cream bars. The chocolate was nice and thick; the caramel downright sinful; but I must say the ice cream left me wanting a bit. It wasn't as good as my all-time favorite; the H¤agen-Dazs®Vanilla & Almond ice cream bar.

The Bottom Line on the Magnum Double Caramel Ice Cream Bar

If it weren't for the so-so ice cream in the Magnum Double Caramel Ice Cream Bar I would have rated it a 10, but since I'm very picky about my ice cream, this one only warrants an 8.

For the price, I'd much rather splurge for the H¤agen-Dazs®Vanilla & Almond ice cream bar, as it's about the same price and is much better. Though, I have to say, the Magnum is better than most of the "cheap-plastic- chocolate-wanna-be- H¤agen-Dazs® " ice milk bars they try to pass off as ice cream bars. Though truth be told, if you like caramel better than almonds, it's not half bad.
