Review of the Makita 12v Cordless Drill Kit (6270DWPE)

A Light Duty Electric Drill Driver That's Perfect for Home Use

Tyler Jenkins
I bought the drill in December 2008, purchased it for $150 and am delighted with the handling of the power of this tool! The batteries provides 2.0 amp hours of capacity allowing me to that you can full submerge 25-30 drywall screws into timber on a single battery charge. Although this is considered a light duty drill at only 12 volts, it can still pack a serious punch. The charger is very high quality and switches the battery after the charge to trickle charge. This smart charger system monitors the battery charge extensively so that the battery is always at 100% capacity when ready to use and you never have to worry about cooking the batteries. The battery discharges itself at a pretty slow rate.

I mainly use this drill for around the house handy work like hanging picture frames and unscrewing appliances and it will easily go 3 weeks without needing a charge. I previously had a Bosch cordless screwdriver with 1.2 amp hour battery and every time I wanted to use the screwdriver, the battery was empty. Now I have a tool which is always ready for use. I gladly pay the higher price for a quality tool and this example is very well justified. The drill comes equipped with 2 batteries a charger and a solid, non-slip tool case.

Please remember this is an entry level tool from Makita. For what its worth it performs well but it is no comparison to higher end Makita drills like 18V LXT Lithium-Ion BDF452.
