Review of Malee Thai Cuisine - King George, Virginia

Living in a rural area it is often hard to find ethnic cuisine other than your local Chinese restaurant, thankfully a Thai restaurant opened in our area last year. It's just a small little building with only a few parking spaces. While it's not a "fine dining" establishment with white tablecloths, it does offer good food, it is affordable, and close-by. It's especially convenient when you're not in the mood to make the drive to Fredericksburg to a more upscale Thai restaurant.

Lunch specials are offered Monday through Friday from 11a.m. to 3 p.m. They offer a Combo "A" which is one of their special dishes of the day and rice for $4.95, a Combo "B" which is two of their dishes over rice for $5.95, or a Combo "C" one item with rice, soup of the day and a spring roll all for $6.50. Compared to your average fast food restaurant you'll have to admit that that is a pretty good deal. Lunchtime the restaurant may be a little crowded since it is located next to a military base.

Dinner prices start at $6.95 for a small entree (example Pad Thai with Chicken) to $9.95 for a large entrée (example Gang Goong). They also have several soups, salads, and appetizers to choose from. I do have to admit that I'm not impressed with their Tom Yum soup, which should have a lemon flavor but has more of a broccoli broth flavor. While they do use different ingredients than most Thai restaurants that we have been to the entrees we've ordered have always been delicious and they've never left anything out of our order when we've called it in.

The restaurant is located at 17274 Dahlgren Road in King George, VA, directly in front of the Dahlgren NSWC main gate. They also offer free dinner delivery within a 4-mile radius and a minimum order of $12. Malee Thai can be reached by calling 540-663-9000 or 540-663-4444. I highly recommend calling your order in if you're ordering take out, sometimes they're running a little behind.

The family that owns and manages the restaurant is very friendly. If you have any questions about the dishes they will help you with them. At lunchtime when they have all of their daily specials out, they will let you sample the different dishes before you place your order so that you know you will like what you're ordering. All you have to do is ask. For a change of pace, give Malee Thai a chance; you may just fall in love with a new cuisine.
