Review Marvel Pinball Fantastic Four Marvel Table Dlc for Pinball FX 2

In last year's release of Pinball FX 2 Zen Studios made an incredible update to an existing game, packing it chock full of additional features, and worthy of purchase to any pinball aficionado (related: Review of Pinball FX 2). The Fantastic Four Marvel Pinball add on for Pinball FX 2 is no exception either.

The Story:

"The shadow of the mighty Galactus is approaching Earth. His herald, the Silver Surfer, has discovered Planet Earth and called the ruler of the Power Cosmic, who is already on his way. A menace to the entire galaxy, Galactus wants to consume the Earth by converting it into pure energy. Only the Fantastic Four can face this challenge, as only they have enough power to obtain the Ultimate Nullifier and pacify the ruler of the Power Cosmic. But before the Fantastic Four can meet with Galactus, they have to fight Doctor Doom and his Doombots, as well as invading Skrulls."

Available on Xbox LIVE Arcade for 240 Microsoft Points and on the PlayStation Network ASAP for $2.99, one of the first things that sets this table apart from others in Pinball FX 2 is that there are almost twice as many lines of dialogue in Fantastic four compared to each of the previous Marvel Pinball tables. The quality of the voice acting in the Fantastic Four table is also above par compared to some of Pinball FX 2's other tables.

Similar to the previously released Marvel Pinball tables, the new Fantastic Four table features fully animated 3D models of well known characters, including Mr. Fantastic, The Human Torch, The Thing, The Invisible Woman, and Doctor Doom. Each of the characters that are featured in the game showcase off their special powers. For example, Mr. Fantastic stretches out his arms to save balls, The Human Torch sets on fire, and The Invisible Woman can (wait for it!) turn invisible...however more usefully she can also help stop your balls from sinking.

As with other Pinball FX 2 tables, its in the online multiplayer that the Fantastic Four table excels. With pop up windows that inform you whenever you're about to reach a friend's high score (or personal best), the game can become a frightful adrenaline rush. Those who don't like the feature can turn it off in Pinball FX 2's numerous game mode features. I spent several hours just trying to one up a friend's score so that my Avatar could stand victorious.

Like previous Pinball FX 2 tables, the Fantastic Four Marvel Pinball table brings three unlockable Xbox 360 achievements for a total of 50 gamer score. Unlocking them however may prove harder then you'll think. That's because there are four characters, each with their own missions to complete. Previous Marvel Pinball tables only had two or three characters.

I spent four hours with the Fantastic Four table (oh, the irony!) and have yet to make it more than twenty minutes without dropping all my balls. In fact, the Fantastic Four Marvel Pinball table is arguably harder than the majority of other Pinball FX Tables. While some might take this as a challenge, it might lead others to frustration. That's ok though because it led me to replay two other great Pinball FX 2 tables that you should add to your collection if you haven't already: Spiderman and Wolverine.

The Fantastic Four Marvel Pinaball DLC is a bargain priced add on that will lead you to revisit the other tables and spend countless additional hours playing Pinball FX 2.
