Review of Maybelline's Lash Stiletto Mascara

I used to work as a cosmetics manager for a large retailer not too long ago. Visiting other stores, I found that the people running the same department had little to no knowledge of their merchandise, let alone cosmetics in general. But I loved make-up. I bought every new product when it would launch, especially mascara. Every new mascara seemed to offer the long, dark, dramatic lashes I longed for to go with my smokey eye look, yet none of them would live up to my expectations. I tried Lash Blast by Cover Girl due to it's popularity and successful launch, but I was disappointed when I discovered my lashes had not increased in length and it had a tendency to flake throughout the day. I then switched to Maybelline's first answer to the Lash Blast and started to use Maybelline's Colossal Lash with collagen. It yielded better results, but for some reason in a two week span it turned into a goopy, globby mess when I pulled the wand out of the tube. So it was back to the Lash Blast until this past winter when I stumbled upon Maybelline's Lash Stiletto in Very Black. Despite the outrageous twelve dollar price tag I bought it anyways, swearing off mascara forever if this one didn't work for me.

Maybelline's Lash Stiletto is the best twelve dollars I've spent on cosmetics.

I first noticed that it does in two coats what most mascaras will attempt to do in six coats. Even one coat was enough of a difference for a more natural look, but since I like my eye make up more on the heavy side I tested it with three. Instantly Lash Stiletto gave me the length and volume I was looking for. Not only did it lengthen the lashes, but it gave the impression that I had more lashes than I actually had. The lift and the length actually drew enough attention to my eyes for my lovingly oblivious fiance to notice that "there was something different". I was even excited to find that I had tiny lash lines from the mascara on the inside of my sunglasses. Don't be alarmed though, that was from putting on the glasses before the mascara had a chance to dry. But that is proof that it added the additional length to my lashes. Lash Stiletto even lasted all day without a bit of goop. There is a trick to applying it though, or you can easily end up with the "spider legs around the eye" look. Work on each eye separately as you're applying. Every coat and swipe of Lash Stiletto should be done at the base of your lashes. As you pull up, jiggle the wand around so you catch and separate every lash. The reason for doing each eye separately is that each coat is applied before the previous coat has a chance to dry. This is to evenly coat each lash and to minimize the clumps, since this mascara can clump easily if you don't layer it on carefully. It is a practice that seems to go against everything a girl learns about applying mascara, but there is a blurb on the tube of Lash Stiletto that mentions applying more before the previous coat is dry. I've tried it both ways, and it does make a difference with they way your lashes look. The mascara will go on smoother and more seamless if the first coat hasn't dried. Once you're satisfied with the look of your first eye, move on to the other and do the same. You'll notice the difference instantly; more length, more volume, and a noticeable emphasis on your eyes.

Maybelline's Lash Stiletto is the first mascara I have ever recommended to other people. It exceeded my expectations I was looking for in a mascara and the results were not as dismal as all of the other mascaras I've tried. If you're looking for a mascara that can lengthen as it promises, last all day, and make someone notice "something different" about you, I highly recommend Maybelline's Lash Stiletto. It's the best twelve dollars I'd ever be willing to spend on make up because Lash Stiletto actually lives up to it's advertisements.

Just recently started using this mascara. I too like my eye makeup heavier. I still am not getting volume with Stiletto (length good though) but at least it isn't a damn goobly glooby mess of black stuff. So sick of mascara that says "non clumping" and first thing you get is a big black blob setting up house in your eyelashes.
