Review of Mellow Mushroom Restaurant in Lawrenceville, Georgia

Karen Francis
I have to admit that I had never heard of Mellow Mushroom before I moved to Georgia. I was raised in the Bronx, New York, so you imagine what I pictured when I heard the name Mellow Mushroom? I thought it was some kind of vegetarian restaurant or one of those new raw movement establishments. Don't get me wrong, I am beginning to really like the vegan and vegetarian spots, but they still take second place to my love for what our society considers "junk food".

I was challenged by a co-hort of mine to try Mellow Mushroom's pizza. Those of you who know me know I am a pizza snob like most New Yorkers. We don't tend to think there is any other pizza as great or as authentic as New York pizza. Growing up in the Bronx allowed me the privilege of having a slice of pizza any time I wanted to and I wanted to indulge often!

When I accepted the challenge to try out Mellow Mushroom's pizza, I have to tell you that I was pleasantly surprised by the taste of their pizza. I am a die-hard cheese pizza person, but I tried one of their specialty pizzas such as the Mega veggie. This pizza includes some of my favorite toppings like artichoke hearts, banana peppers and spinach. I was very impressed! Although, I won't concede that they serve "authentic" New York pizza, I will admit they serve some very flavorful choices.

Mellow Mushroom makes just about any kind of pizza that the mind can conceive and some combinations that you'd probably never think of. They not only serve really great pizza, their salads are just as delicious! I think my favorite salad would have to be the Greek Salad which is served with iceberg, red cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, green peppers, mushrooms, feta, kalamata olives, tomatoes, pepperoncini, banana peppers and served with their famous Esperanza dressing. The salad is wonderful, but that Esperanza dressing is like nothing I've ever tasted. It is fantastic!

If you're not that into pizza or salads, don't worry they have something on the menu for everyone. They serve Hoagies, Calzones and those always sought after munchies and bar food that includes pretzels, hummus, and brushchetta and meatball appetizers. The fun doesn't stop at the food; they also have great entertainment that includes Football nights, Trivia nights and live local bands.

Mellow Mushroom is located at 911 Highway 120 (Duluth Highway), Suite E3, Lawrenceville, Georgia 30043. They are opened Mon-Thurs 11:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Friday-Sat. 11:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Sunday 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Visit them on-line today at http://www.mellowmushroom.com/lawrenceville#/locations or give them a call to make a reservation or book your next birthday or wedding party at 770-338-2400.
