Review for Memphis Plaza Hotel and Suites

The Memphis Plaza Hotel as of Feb. 2007 was nothing to write home about! I would never stay there again, and in fact I did not stay there this time I was in Memphis either. As the story goes, during rest stops I saw a coupon book for the Memphis Plaza and it stated that they had a bar (I do not drink) and restaurant in the hotel. Well my ex at the time wanted to stay there mainly because of the cheap price as the booklet stated $40.00 a night. He also liked the fact that they had a bar so he could hang out there before he went to sleep and he wouldn't have to drive back to the hotel drunk.

Well when we get there the girl at the counter had no idea how to do coupons that came in the book so it took her forever and she had to talk to the manager. He showed her how. So also stated in the booklet it had Wifi internet. When we got to our room which was ran down with stains every where and just plain disgusting. However we had brought our own blankets and bed clothes due to the fact most Hotels have clean problems. So we really weren't in a mood to leave since it was kinda late already.

However the internet in the room did not work with my laptop. And I need to find directions to where we were going the next day. I went down to speak with the clerk however she said there is no internet in the rooms just by the pool or at the lobby only. This was very awkward due to the pool being closed down and the lobby only had 1 computer and 1 couch and 3 chairs. Ugh. So I went to stop by the restaurant and found a large sign stating the restaurant and bar was closed due to remodeling. When I went upstairs to tell my ex he was furious at the fact if we wanted something to eat we'd have to leave anyhow.

So we called the clerk and asked her for a refund. She let me speak with the manager and he tried to beg us to stay and he would cute our 2 night stay to a $40.00 total so we'd stay at half price. We told him we were leaving anyhow. So he agreed and made us go back down stairs. So after I got the refund on the credit card, she then charged me $1.00 for calling the clerk and manager from my room! Talk about rip off! I will never stay at this Hotel again!
