Review of Messy Little Raindrops by Cheryl Cole

Cheryl Cole has been the topic of many headlines this year. From her divorce from Ashley Cole to battling malaria to causing controversy on the X Factor, she has barely been out of the news in months. With all of the drama now out of the way, Cheryl Cole is getting back to the day job of making music and she recently released her second solo album, Messy Little Raindrops. It reached number one in the UK charts last week and looks set to continue to do well in the lead up to Christmas!

Review of Cheryl Cole's Messy Little Raindrops

Messy Little Raindrops consists of many pop and dance tracks, with a couple of ballads thrown in too. Cheryl Cole collaborated with the likes of will.i.am and Dizzee Rascal to produce some fantastic and catchy songs.

The first track on the album is Cheryl Cole's first single from Messy Little Raindrops, Promise This. If you haven't heard it yet, turn on the radio! Promise This is a vibrant track which will stay in your head all day long. In the same way Fight For This Love was the unforgettable tune of Cheryl's first album; Promise This is the perfect introduction to her second.

Yeah Yeah featuring Travie McCoy is a classic dance tune that would sound fantastic being blasted out at nightclubs across the country. Let's Get Down has a similar vibe too. It was partly written by Cheryl Cole and features her close friend will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas. The notable thing about Let's Get Down is that it has Cheryl almost rapping in places. It's surprising and better than you might imagine.

As well as the brilliant dance tracks, Messy Little Raindrops has a couple of very soft songs which showcase Cole's voice very well. By far the most gorgeous and mellow track is Raindrops. If you initially listen to the lyrics, it sounds a bit cheesy but after a few listens it becomes quite beautiful. Vocally, it is absolutely stunning. Hummingbird is another favourite which has a great sound to it.

The only track on the album that isn't so great is Better To Lie. It fits with the vibe of the album but it's less singing more talking and feels weak compared to the other songs.

The most important thing Messy Little Raindrops does for Cheryl Cole is prove that she isn't just a pretty face and that she really can sing. For those who have forgotten, she actually came from a reality television show which had her singing live every week. Reports that she is not talented are unfair and completely unjustified. Pick yourself up a copy of Messy Little Raindrops and listen for yourself. If you like dance music, you will love this album!
