Review of Milan Fashion Week 2010: Fall/Winter 2010 Collections

Classic Style is Dominant

Milan Fashion Week 2010 offered an elegant array of collections for Fall/Winter 2010 by the industry's top designers, while keeping the everyday, recession-era lady in mind. Renowned designers Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, and Armani showcased classic, feminine clothes in their collections with an emphasis on the elegant style of the mid 20th century. For the everyday lady who wants to look chic without going over budget, you will not be disappointed as it was all about affordable luxury.

The overall look for Fall/Winter 2010 is classic. Classic cuts, fabrics, silhouettes, with a dash of sweet whimsy is what the fashion forward lady will be wearing. Looks we have seen in recent years, such as the early 1960s influence, were prominent in Prada's collection of jackets and skirts, while Gucci showcased beautiful cashmere coats, silk tops, and skinny trousers with metal plate belts for a modern edge. Basic dresses, slacks, and suiting in colors such as black, charcoal, cream, red and pink were very hot, and wool and leather are the fabrics of choice, as well as real fur (for the politically incorrect fashionistas!) Since the top designers' looks are rooted in classic style, it will be very easy for any stylish lady to copy the latest looks while staying within budget.

Evening wear for Fall/Winter 2010 is all about sexy femininity. Beautiful Chantilly lace dresses worn with stockings were a huge hit, harking back the luxurious evening wear of the 1980s. Archetypal feminine trim such as sequins, ostrich feathers, and lots of lace added fun whimsy to elegant evening wear, and Armani's collection featured stylish capes worn over dresses. For evenings in 2010, it is all about luxury and glamour.

Accessories were a smash at this year's Fashion Week, with leather handbags, gloves, and capes being hot items for Fall and Winter. The biggest trend in fashion accessories this year would most definitely be hats and hair accessories, which were a hot featured look at Fashion Week. Gorgeous hair pieces made of silk, feathers, and netting were featured prominently on the runway, and this website has some gorgeous pictures of the many groundbreaking headpieces worn by the industry's top models.

Milan Fashion Week always attracts many celebrities who seek a firsthand view of the latest styles from the top designers, and this year was no exception. Some of the famous faces who flocked to Fashion Week this year included Shaun White, Zoe Saldana, and Courtney Love, who arguably looked chic in the latest styles, but could have used a little fashion help in putting her overall look together (need a stylist Ms. Love? I'm available!) All in all, Fashion Week was a very memorable spectacle, with loads of gorgeous clothes, and glamour in spades!
